In 10+ years I’ve never seen any more then 3 to 5 mills with blades turning.

I've seen the same thing in PA. It makes zero sense here since we are the Saudi Arabia of natural gas and have tons of coal as well.

“When I drive on I68 through Cumberland Maryland I count about 13-15 windmills. In 10+ years I’ve never seen any more then 3 to 5 mills with blades turning. The rest I guess are resting”

I drive through there 2-3 times per year going to VA and I always see most turning.. my wife and talk about every time we see them.

Up in NW Ohio off St Rt 23 they have them and they are usually turning.

>>Just wait until their beautiful ocean vistas are gone for good. Then they will all sing a different tune.

Doubtful. Don’t most idealists see what they want to see? While we see a despoliation of a landscape that was once natural beauty, these idiots will give deep sighs of contentment as they see a farm of these things and know that they were part of the chain of activists that saved humanity. Their eyes won’t register the feathers of wild life on the waves that a previous generation of activists would have given their lives to protect on some other woke battleground.

A “lifeline” for whom???? Certainly not the people of the area, so it is a “investment” lifeline that takes money away from the very highly taxed citizens and delivers it as a subsidy for the private investment parasites who promote this completely inefficient and non-cost effective power generation. The generators do not last over salt water or any water, the blades to be made are extremely energy and materials wasting. Check out their construction... wood? (oh right renewable— but not).

A boondoggle- and always has been, and a darling of the political “investors” who are driving society right over the cliff with this stupidity.

Could check with Texas on the viability of wind farms as an energy source during the winter time.

You must drive at the right time.

Since I moved to Morgantown I can get on top of the hill next to my house and look east and see some of them. (Note I’ve not counted the number I can see!) Usually I see none turning, occasionally three !

Does no one realize these wind farms are slowing down the earths rotation? Nights are getting longer.

Lawrence and Brockton are not that expensive—but they have ghettos that have to be seen to be believed.

“I’ve seen the same thing in PA. It makes zero sense here since we are the Saudi Arabia of natural gas and have tons of coal as well.”

When Fukushima blew up, Angela Merkel shut down all German nukes and fired up her coal burning plants. Most likely some had been mothballed. Given German tech, I am sure they are burning this coal super cleanly. Amazingly enough, much of this coal is shipped in, imported from Appalachia, USA.

We need to retrofit our coal burning plants with this German technology and build more with this German technology. Then we would have a much stronger electric grid to accommodate the EV/Electric vehicle fantasies of the eco-wackos.

Of course, the sad situation is just about all those who are EV boosters believe in global warming. They hate CO2, so want to ban all coal plants. Natural gas too! Which does not put up as much CO2 as coal.

Marvin Haggler came from Brockton, most likely lived in the projects or the local ghetto.

I remember there have been some times not all were spinning but I think most times we went through the majority were spinning.

The govt is giving $52 Billion, not million, billion to US chip manufacturers to set up and build in the US. Now, I would think chip production and demand is pretty high profit and don’t need the $52 billion but here ya go.

Intel is building 2 chip fabs in Arizona. Taiwanese TSMC is building a fab there too. I wonder if TSMC is getting this Federal subsidy too? TSMC is smart to build here, far away from CCP pressures, to allocate chips the way the CCP wants them to.

Very nice reply, mairdie.

I’m reminded of the time many years ago when the environmentalists went apoplectic about the sight of offshore oil rigs off the Santa Barbara coast. They argued that the vistas were spoiled as well as the risk of oil spills. I think at some point when there are millions or even tens of millions of windmills they may come to their senses.

Surface mining companies (aka, strip mining) are required to post bonds to restore the landscape to its original condition after they have shut down the mine. So the cost of future restoration is baked into today’s cost of coal and minerals mined from the earth.

There are no such bonds required for windmills. In California, many windmills built 20 or more years ago are abandoned rusting hulks. There is no money to tear them down, pull up the hundreds of tons of concrete, and restore the landscape.

Imagine when ten million windmills have reached the end of their economic life in 2040 to 2050 and there is no bonded money for removal or restoration. Not only will the landscape be blighted with replacement windmills, all the obsolete rusting, deteriorating hulks will stand there mute, blades frozen in place, producing nothing, forever.

At least until the people rise up and scream “Do something about this mess” at which point the government will allocate $100 billion it doesn’t have to restore the sites.

This is so easy to see coming. Unfortunately, I won’t live long enough to enjoy watching this disaster unfold.

A few people are starting to talk about the environmental problem of disposing of the gigantic blades, but I haven’t heard anybody discuss how to restore the sites to their former verdant glory. Imagine a landscape with millions of bare windmill towers dotting the landscape like porcupine quills.

True, but they are not located in hurricane ally like Nantucket is.

I believe you have hit on the real problem with this offshore wind farm idea.

I live in an ocean side town in Mass. and can see the yearly damage done to my town by winter Nor'easters.(Hurricanes are fewer but more damaging)

In order to stand up to these storms, an incredible amount of money will have to be spent to keep these windmills in operation out in the ocean. Way more money than it is being spent ashore, to maintaining a shore bound losing money operation. -Tom

We need to retrofit our coal burning plants

Most coal burning plants in the US have been retrofitted to burn natural gas. It is actually a very easy conversion. It can go back and forth between coal and gas.

Just announced 15 minutes ago the largest chip plant in the world is going to be built in New Albany Ohio.wow. Great news.

I didn’t know this. No wonder we were able to switch to cleaner, less CO2 generating natural gas so quickly. But this is not good enough for the eco-crazies. They think electricity grows on trees for their EVs.

"The issue arises mainly because numerous New England states have refused to approve additional natural gas pipelines into or through their state."

Indeed. We have plenty of wind, but need natural gas.

Residential electricity prices in Massachusetts in September 2021 averaged 23.48 cents per kilowatthour (¢/kWh), which was approximately 65% more than the national average rate of 14.19 ¢/kWh (September 2021). [1] - https://utilitieslocal.com/states/massachusetts/
In 2018, Massachusetts got 67% of its power from natural gas and none from coal, making it a state without a coal-fired plant. Almost all of the remainder of Massachusetts’ electricity came from nuclear and renewable resources. - https://www.electricrate.com/residential-rates/massachusetts/

Ohio has landed what could become the biggest semiconductor operation on Earth.

Chip giant Intel plans to officially announce Friday that it will invest $20 billion to build two computer chip plants in Jersey Township in Licking County in what will be Ohio's largest economic development project to date. State and local officials are set to gather in Newark this afternoon to celebrate the news.

Noting that Intel chose a state that is rational and conservative. Center-right and pro business. No way would Intel build in New York or California....loL... and Intel's HQ and most research is in California.
