The end of earth is coming... in about 4 billion years from now this galaxy will destroy our system. Yeah I heard fake scientists claim they will not collide. Simply Hogwash. The dust after two galaxies collide is massive
Galaxies are mostly empty space. The Earth will almost certainly survive the merger of M31 and our galaxy just fine (though our sun and its planets might end up getting ejected from the newly formed super-galaxy).
However, about a billion years after that, our sun will enter the red-giant phase of its evolution, swallowing Mercury, Venus and most likely the Earth as well.

said, "Galaxies are mostly empty space"
wars are mostly peaceful. The logic is the same.
Passing through Oort clouds around each star changes the size a little wouldn't you say?
How many stars do we know has entered our own oort cloud in the past 100,000 years?

I live on a big round ball
I never do dream I may fall
But even one day if I do
I will jump up and smile back at you
I don’t even know where we are
They tell me we’re circling a star
I’ll take their word, I don’t know
But I’m dizzy so it may be so

Our astronomy club used to go to a forest preserve in NW Winnebago County, then we started going to a quarry in Green County, across the state line. Both locations had dark skies, but both are unavailable now.
When everything goes to hell, it’s good to know safe haven isn’t too far away.
Hopefully it won’t come to that.
Actually, Mrs. and I would consider moving to Wisconsin if we could afford to.
Stay safe! 🙂🔭

It looks so rock solid from afar; hard to believe everything is in motion.
Plus, cool cat with shades.

Yes, you’re correct. Our galaxy and the Andromeda Galaxy are hurtling towards each other at a speed of some 300,000 miles an hour.
But at a distance of over two million light years it is going to take a while to occur.
