Veteran folk singer Hana Horká died Sunday of COVID-19 after intentionally exposing herself to the virus in an ill-advised self-immunization attempt. She was 57 years old.
The Czech musician’s passing was confirmed by her son Jan Rek, who told Prague Morning that she “preferred to catch the disease than get vaccinated.”

My understanding is, your immune system over-reacts and attacks you. It is a common result from the vax when it is exposed to the virus "in the wild". When it happens, it happens very fast.
Others may have a better explanation.

well, I have no animosity towards you. I am all about freedom, and the freedom to choose or not to choose to be vaccinated is one of those things.
I personally got the first two shots, but have decided to pass on any additional boosters which apparently we would have to get every 4-6 months forever.

That’s the crazy thing about this virus. It affects people in different ways. I know an 18 year old girl who got it over a year ago and her sense of taste only returned recently. Her sense of smell is still off. I just spoke to her about it on Saturday. It’s been a year and 3 months for her. People don’t just die from this thing; they get many other complications.
I’m so sorry for your losses! This is a dreadful disease for many.
As a funny aside... my 35 year old son was on the fence about getting the booster and he decided to get it right before christmas because he wanted to make sure he was able to taste the rib roast he was cooking for Christmas Day, lol. We know now that the booster isn’t very effective against omicron, but I still thought it was funny.
Nobody should be Czeching out at 57.

If you catch it deliberately, wouldn’t you have the treatments close at hand and ready to go? Did they deny her treatment, or delay it?

I suspect a lot of people here are either not socially all that active beyond FR, just don’t want to really “go out and find out” offline, (does take some effort if one is in a smaller family or has fewer friends), or are simply delusional.
“Pockets” of relatively few cases do exist, too.
Try going to neutral sites where political discussion is limited or banned but discussion of “family” and social matters is allowed or even encouraged. You will find a much different picture of COVID than that which appears on FR. :-(
In the group: Relatives, relatives of close friends, close friends of relatives, and various friends and acquaintances of ours, my wife and I have 17 fatalities. One more seems likely but the circumstances are unclear (just how severe was the COVID / was it actually the trigger for the pneumonia?) This does not include other church contacts. (Ie., people our pastors know, prayers for COVID deceased persons we don’t know, and so on.) Nor does it include patients of our PCP or other health care workers we know, unless otherwise “connected” to us as above. Serious cases and / or long COVID (recoveries taking over a month) I’ve lost track of. Over 2 years, this is hardly “everyone dropping like flies”, but, it IS significant. Granted my wife’s family is large, and as we are not spring chickens, most of those we know are age 45+.
A cousin, aged 28 with a 4 month old baby, is in the hospital with a tube stuck in her, Remdesivir in her body, along with a sedative to suppress her breathing. The doctors say, he kidneys are failing.
She looks like an average 57 year old woman to me. People have mistaken ideas of what is obesity.

I am so sorry to hear you are having to deal with that.
Maybe it’s the nature of the site, and what is allowed to be posted that somehow results in people not revealing much about their own personal experiences. I was honestly starting to assume most here were like me and hand’t been personally affected by this horrible virus.

I believe I read somewhere that Remdesivir and Kidney failure went hand in hand. Has anybody else read that?
