The Department of Defense (DOD) has missed a deadline to produce a report on the estimated $85 billion in U.S. weaponry left in Afghanistan, prompting a letter from 27 House Republicans demanding answers.
Congress approved legislation in September that required DOD officials to report on the property, equipment, and supplies that were destroyed, taken out of Afghanistan, or that remain in Afghanistan in connection with the August U.S. military withdrawal from the country.
The DOD had 90 days to submit that report to Congress. After the Dec. 29, 2021, deadline came and went with no word from the Pentagon, Rep. Andy Barr (R-Ky.) and 26 other Republicans demanded answers from Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin.
“The DOD is over [two weeks] late on its reporting deadline, totally disregarding Congressional accounting of taxpayer funded equipment abandoned by this Administration and left in possession of the Taliban,” the Jan. 14 letter reads. “This lack of information prevents Congress from being able to accurately and effectively conduct oversight over the tens of billions of dollars of equipment invested in Afghanistan over the past 20 years and creates vulnerabilities in our national security.”

Since Clinton, the Pentagon has largely answered to no *Elected political authority.
Bush JR never really had control of the DOJ, IC, DOD, etc... When we were hit on 9/11 he was fully reliant on Clinton leftists. Bush quickly learned to go along.

Trump had them partially involved in fabricating false evidence to treasonously impeach him, multiple times!

- Saw them move 30-40 thousand troops into DC, cordon off DC, made to perform parade on National Mall, all for the fraudulent deep state placed, and foreign influenced or controlled puppet POTUS
In March of 2021, after having used Pentagon and FBI to score political points, Pelosi and Schumer finally went to the Pentagon to try and get them to move the troops out. The Pentagon (paraphrasing) basically told them they would do it when they decided.
Also notice, Buyden (fale CIC) wasn’t even part of the “TROOPS” discussion picture — at all!
Think about that.....
They forgot to put monetary penalties in the law. If they were really serious about the military doing as ordered they would have put in automatic financial reductions in the military budget for noncompliance.
This was their umpteenth version of a “strongly worded letter.”
Useless.
At every level the bureaucracy is laughing at congress. Even the military. And nothing will happen. They will get the regular budget increase like clockwork while they mock the congress and the voters.
It takes time to shred documents, wipe hard drives, and sideline witnesses.
All normal in the corrupt DC swamp. The Pentagon is no exception.

Regarding congressional oversight, the average voter is clueless.
