If I were 50 years younger and in the market for a crotch rocket, I would consider one. Unfortunately my old back can’t take the the punishment of being constantly huntched forward while riding, especially for a long ride.
Not a typo. .................
If it isn’t shaking the flab on your arms like a flag in a hurricane, it ain’t a Harley..........................
That and the higher production costs associated with small production vehicles. They can’t get discounts of huge parts buys like the big mfrs can..............
I worked for H-D some years ago.
One attitude that permeates H-D from the highest executive to the guy on the assembly flood is their belief in the “Brand”. And that their brand is legendary, and commands respect and deference from all whom they do business with.
They think they’re the big fish in a big pond.
At one point, they were purchasing 4 CNC machines from a manufacturer to start a new motor manufacturing line. Not cheap, about 500k each. They had requested a certain control software be installed on these machines. The manufacture said no.
Later at the FAT (Factor Acceptance Test) one of the H-D guys noticed there were other machine in the factory that had the very software system they had requested. They were quite upset about this, they were H-D after all, and spending lots of money of these machines.
When they confronted the manufacturer about this, they were told something to the effect of “Those are for Ford, their buying 1000 machines, they get whatever they want.”
On that day at least, those few employees were made to understand H-Ds true place in the world, and how much deference their “Brand” really bought them.
