His dog thought he had hit the lottery, all those bones, so little time.

The dog walker found “skeletonized remains,” meaning the body had likely been in the wilderness long enough for the remains to decompose and begin to reveal the skeleton, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office said. Now there's some circular logic for you. The skeleton was there long enough to become a skeleton. Who needs a forensic team?

Investigators believe at least one of the remains belongs to an aspiring banker who purchased an excessive amount of ammunition from a shopkeep who offered him food and spare parts for his travels but was rebuffed. He died from dysentery.

If you want to find a body, form a search team of dog walkers, joggers and kids playing.

As a hunter, I can tell you remains of animals don't decompose to skeletons, the “flesh” is eaten by a variety of animals, very quickly. Lots and lots of scavengers (birds and 4-legged) out in the woods.
I have tracked game in the snow only to come upon a super highway of animal tracks crossing the game trail that lead to an animal skeleton. Nature is very efficient in recycling.

Hmmm. Died on the Oregon Trail - maybe it was from dysentery.

"Man Walking His Dog Discovers Human Skeleton on Oregon Hiking Trail, Cops Say" My money says the dog actually discovered the skeleton. The man walking him is just claiming credit since the dog can't talk.
