KFC is the latest fast-food giant to claim that “plant-based” chicken can taste as good as the real thing — but the chain picked the wrong faux fowl to make its case.
The chain’s supposedly long-awaited Beyond Nuggets (six for $7.99) are beyond awful — worse than KFC’s near-flavorless real-meat chicken tenders.
The fake chicken from within KFC’s new offerings come from Beyond Meat, a rival to Impossible Foods, which created the famous Impossible Burger. The idea behind offering artificial chicken at KFC is to “democratize plant-based protein,” according to Beyond Meat founder Ethan Brown.

No Frankenfood for us! We like meat, and we like vegetables. But only real food, please—nothing engineered by Bill Gates, please...
and the price of real chicken?
Soylent Green it ain’t.
Can someone explain to me what the idea is behind fake chicken and meat in general, are we running out of chickens?
I love baked chicken, especially with some crisp skin! nom nom nom! I’ve not tried Montreal Chicken seasoning, I’ll have to find some and give it a whirl. :)
KFC- Kentucky Fake Chicken
Thanks, but I like beef burgers.
I eat plants in salads and side dishes.
And sometimes I’ll have lettuce, tomato, onion and pickles (cucumbers)on my burgers. Those are plants. 😊
I'm sure they'll start using it instead of real meat and not telling people.
Worse was the Chipotle vegan chorizo we had tonight. That tasted fake, like it was made from stale flour, without enough seasoning or fat.
“Tuno?” LOL!
I had one very good Impossible burger, but it was at a local, more upscale restaurant.
The two I had from Burger King at different times were barely edible.
LOL!
LOL!
Barf! My first job (aside from babysitting) was in high school, working part-time at KFC - days on Saturdays and Sundays (except for the Saturdays when I had swim meets.) They gave you free food on your meal breaks back then. After about six months, I was so burned out on that stuff. I worked there for almost a year.
It was three years after I left that job before I could eat KFC again. About two years before I could go by one and smell it without gagging.
I posted at Nextdoor website in reply to a posting about this. I said “Chickens are meant to be eaten. Vegi ‘chicken’ is just wrong, very wrong!”
There were a few dozen people vegans there with no sense of humor and whose name could all be “Karen”.
Replies: “with your logic then people are meant to be eaten by sharks and lions but nobody wants that because that would be a horrible death. Same concept here but for chickens, they don’t want to die a horrible death especially when we have alternatives like plants oh and veggie chicken!”
“R U CHICKEN - afraid of ANYTHING ???”
