Whether it's a shortage of grocery items or prices skyrocketing at stores—shoppers aren't happy. Due to supply chain issues that have caused strain on major retailers like Walmart, Kroger, Food Lion, Costco, customers are experiencing frustrations while shopping for food and other daily essentials at their local stores.
We reached out to our readers on Facebook and Twitter and asked them to share about the specific grocery shortages that are currently frustrating them the most. Customers from around the U.S. wrote in their current frustrations at stores—and a few repeated items popped up from shopper complaints.
>>>Here in Free Florida we have all the consumer goods (and food) we need.<<<
Well . . . in my neck of the woods, cat food has become very, VERY scarce. Even from Chewy!
I don’t need people (employees) that know what they are doing because I KNOW what I am doing.
“I haven’t seen canned Mandarin Oranges since November.”
Funny you should say that. I just had some last night for the first time. My wife must have bought them.
“PLANT a garden!”
I tried, but after shoveling the snow, I found the ground was frozen. /s
Just had a friend in central Texas text me that their local grocery had many empty shelves and no meat.
My mother was looking for a particular type of White Rain hairspray that she likes which had become hard to find for some reason (it may have been discontinued). We found many cans of it in a Big Lots store in her city, so she bought enough to last her for years.
Keep an eye out for your shampoo in any mini marts or lobby shops in commercial buildings and hotels. I saw five or six cans of that same hard-to-find White Rain hairspray in my building’s lobby shop on the toiletries shelf.
Most packages are going to get smaller. The companies will say it’s because of the cost of transporting the goods to market.
Biden killed the Keystone Pipeline and his new executive order will dramatically shut down trucks coming from Canada. 70% of goods from Canada get here by truck. Until Jan 15 truck drivers do not need to show a vax ID to drive into the US. This Saturday they’ll have to show an ID. Expect to have some shortages. Canada’s biggest export is petroleum and petroleum products. You’ll be paying more at the pump
My son is an assistant manager in a meat dept. at a Food City store and they are being shorted 40% of their regular loads on supply trucks and steaks are scarce and expensive when they get some.
There are some items that just don’t arrive or arrive a couple of weeks later on the trucks. I tell people there are shortages coming but they look at the shelves and blow me off. Oh well I tried...
That’s interesting! I may have to try those out of curiosity. I always have garbanzo beans around.
Agreed! We just need to embrace being more like Venezuela or the old Soviet Union as socialism creeps into our country.
Oh stop it. Going from 100,000 to 99,500 items is not Venezuela’s 50 store items.
and it is my only vice love the tingle on my brain
Genius is right. I’m the opposite of you though, if I never had to go out again, I would be ok with that. Since this covid crap and watching the reaction to it, I would just rather stay home. Can’t do it though, have to go out to buy my wine. hehe :)
Where’s the dam**d Pop Tarts!
The Disney channel ?
No, we don’t need to become Venezuela, North Korea or the Soviet Union, but more self sufficiency (make your own pasta), less consumption of junk and processed foods and some weight loss would do many of us good.
Yeah, just make a nice goulash with the same ingredients, different pasta.
“shockingly I needed some electrical boxes”
Yup, I know...
The way they probably work is they set up for one pasta shape, run a batch, set up for another shape, etc. Each setup involves downtime and overhead.
When you don't have the people and other resources to make all the shapes you used to, you pick the ones that are most popular and easy to make, and just do those.
And when part of the issue is lack of transportation, you pick those shapes which have the higher density, so you can maximize the number of boxes in a truck shipment.
