He’s been in THE most terrible movies in the last few years. Just like Bruce Willis.....they’ve peaked big time and now are taking any role that fronts money....
Although I don't predict a similar trajectory, I remember Michael Caine in the 1980s did the same thing. Lots of terrible movies. Made a lot of money, though. Seems like Caine felt he'd peaked big time and was taking any role that fronted money....
But Caine got older and found much better roles. His late career is a study in excellence. Cage and Willis probably won't be as lucky, but you never know.
It’s a mixed bag for Cage, imo. Most of his films are disasters, but then a handful stand out as solid entertainment.
Neither Cage or Willis are A-List anymore. But not a surprise as they are old. Only a few action hero actors can pull off aging successfully (Tom Cruise comes to mind).
Willis’s movies have not been great, but not incredibly terrible either; the is still worth about $200M. Not bad at all.
In Cage’s case, he blew somewhere between $100-150M of his fortune. He is down to his last $25M. So he is probably using what is left of his reputation to shore up his retirement nestegg. Of course, marrying again is just asking for trouble, but it’s his life.
He’s actually made some B movies that are very well regarded, though also bizarre. He is making good money with these Indy movies. I think one broke all kinds of records. He’s also made trash ones though.
