NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Two-time champion Alysa Liu withdrew from the U.S. Figure Skating Championships after testing positive for COVID-19 on Friday, less than a day after a third-place finish in the short program put her in position to make the Olympic team.
The 16-year-old Liu is at least the fifth competitor to test positive for the virus in the run-up and during nationals, and the third that was expected to make the team for the Beijing Games. The pairs tandem of Alexa Knierim and Brandon Frazier dropped out the day before the start of competition when he returned a positive test.
Just like Knierim and Frazier, who plan to petition for one of the two pairs spots on the Olympic team, Liu has informed U.S. Figure Skating she will petition for one of the three women's spots based on her body of recent work.
"I'm fully vaccinated, have been wearing a n95 mask and got 2 negative test results before leaving to Nashville," Liu posted on her Instagram account shortly after withdrawing. "Things happen unfortunately."

So can somebody explain once again the benefits of vaxxing and masking?

Very simple. No mask can stop the microscopic size virus material. And no vaccine ever was successful in building a virus blocking filter in nose.
If virus material is floating near you, if you are alive and breathing, there is no way on God’s green earth to stop the virus from entering your respiratory system.
The functionality of vaccine begins AFTER infection has begun.
And that is in the form of anti-bodies created by the vaccine to help subdue virus before it grows more and makes you more sick.
Last point... testing positive WITHOUT symptoms or even very mild symptoms, is actually a beneficial thing. Because your body is controlling the virus and CREATING more anti-bodies in the process.
On the issue of benefits of masking... It will reduce exuding virus loads if you cough or sneeze by catching mucous material inside your mask. A mask helps protect OTHERS. Not you.
Poor girl. All that work, and she gets sidelined by the sniffles.
Wears mask, doesn’t wash hands, touches and adjust the mask all day, reuses old dirty masks, gets Covid.
How in the heck does someone else contract COVID from a prior solo ice skating performance? This is sheer lunacy.

If you are coughing or sneezing you should be at home in bed. No mask necessary there either.
The US National Figure Skating Championships are held every year, cancelling the Olympics would not change anything.
She should have been vaccinated.

There it is in a nutshell. But that makes far too much sense for the stupid liberals. They can’t derive any power from common sense.
It’s sad to see how many people mindlessly run out to get more and more shots every time some bureaucrat says they should and go about with pieces of dirty laundry on their faces because the teevee said you’re a good little sheep for doing so.
Should be is not always followed. I have seen thousands of people coughing in public over the years. So do not live in a dream world. I know reality is a byotch.
As soon as the China virus manifested itself in USA, I began washing hands more often instinctively. May be why after 1000 visits to public places since February 2020 I have avoided covid altogether. 3rd and 4th cruises since covid pandemic began are already booked for Jan & Feb 2022.
The sanitary protocols on last 2 cruises were exemplary good.
No passengers allowed to serve themselves in buffet or even the coffee and tea dispensers. Everyone on ship was fully vaxxed and tested within 48 hours of boarding the ship. We felt much more safe than flying in a closed titanium tube sitting shoulder to shoulder with others, -or- eating in land based restaurants where no one is checked for covid.

That is the stuff that falls to the ground in 5-10 feet, hence the “Maintain 6 feet separation” rule. And it truly looks like that was NEVER a significant part of COVID transmission, unlike normal flu.
Masks are worthless against aerosols, which is what makes them so problematic as a magic talisman that will stop COVID in its tracks. “Come on, man!”
And yes, it means masks are truly worthless if you are asymptomatic.
