Weekly Garden Thread - January 8-14, 2022 [Get Your Hygge On Edition]

The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you.

If you have specific question about a plant/problem you are having, please remember to state the Growing Zone where you are located.

This thread is a non-political respite. No matter what, you won’t be flamed, and the only dumb question is the one that isn’t asked.

It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread. Planting, Harvest to Table Recipes, Preserving, Good Living - there is no telling where it will go - and that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us! Send a Private Message to Diana in Wisconsin if you'd like to be added to our New & Improved Ping List.

NOTE: This is a once a week Ping List. We do post to the thread during the week. Links to related articles and discussions which might be of interest to Gardeners are welcomed any time!

They were just packaged incorrectly. I’ve never seen an Amaryllis ‘change color’ based upon...anything, really.

Happened to me once when I thought I had bought a ‘Rilona’ which is a lovely and rare shade of PEACH, and it was just a boring old red one, when it bloomed.

Frustrating, but it’s nothing you did. :(

as a garden expert, does it make a difference where you buy your amaryllis bulbs?...like would a get better quality control buying from a regular garden shop?

I buy mine through Jung’s - because they’re HUGE and, of course, my Alma Mater, LOL!

Not sure what they have left for this season, but for next year try:

I am growing their Red Velvet, which is just coming into bloom with two stalks. I’ll get a picture when she’s in her full glory.
