I didn’t read the WHOLE article, but the thing that has always concerned me is the number or click and no bangs I get with .22 rimfire. Even with new CCI mini-mags.
I would be nervous to rely on those.

I had a Mark II that would frequently not cycle.

Although I have not read the second article on the subject of .22 semi vs. revolver, I suspect misfires are reason the revolver is a better choice. If you have a miss fire, just pull the trigger and the cylinder cycles to the next round. Misfire with a semi-auto and you have to clear the round. I have a .22 Short Rohr revolver. Very reliable little pistol, very few misfires with it. I got it from my Dad, he got it from a Chicago cop who carried as a backup in the Sixties. It came with a leather holster that rests in the small of the back. Actually very comfortable you do not even know it's there. However, extremely unreliable beyond two to three yards, just point center mass and hope for the best. It was obviously a last resort.

The only pistols I have that I would rely upon like that are my S&W Model 617 10-shot revolver and my Beretta Model 87s. Any other pistol? No.

THAT is the main concern. 22 LR ignition reliability.

Many times that effect is brand specific.
CCI and Federal I would trust much more that Winchester and Browning 22 rf ammo.

If you have a semi-automatic, then you are probably history before you clear the chamber.
