They were making very clear to him explicitly clear Republican senators like Lindsey Graham and Marco Rubio and Mitch McConnell that if you do any of those things that you are considering doing, pardoning Assange and Snowden, declassifying JFK files, declassifying other secrets that should have been declassified long ago because they're from decades old treachery on the part of the US government, we will vote to impeach you. They had this leverage the sword of Damocles hanging over his head, and I am not saying this to justify Trump's cowardly refusal to do what he should have done in pardoning Edward Snowden, then Julian Assange. Candace Owens was right in that video that he should have and that if she were in his position, she would have. I'm just
I'm explaining what I know happened, which is that all signs are pointing in the direction of him pardoning Snowden, for sure. And maybe Assange. And then suddenly this preposterous impeachment proceeding to impeach a president who was on his way out anyway, emerged precisely because it gave them the leverage to threaten Trump and say that they would convict him if he did any of those things.
And that is why he left office without doing what you can tell from that video he knows he should have done. He's very sheepish, very uncharacteristically timid about explaining why he didn't. "Oh, I was just too nice. I was just too nice. I'm known for being too nice."
That wasn't the reason. The reason was, because he was afraid of those Republican threats to convict him.

So tell me: What’s the worst that can come out of the JFK files?
Its only my outsiders opinion - Trump thought he could be a "normal" President. He thought he could control the deep-state with the force of his personality. In sum, he was of an age that still had some trust in the righteousness of America's highest governing institutions.
I don't believe he ever grasped that he was in a total war with the deep-state/swamp. I bet they had plans to kill him if he crossed lines. Perhaps pardoning Snowdon was one. Of course, this is only my guess.
Anyway, since it was total war, he should have used all weapons at his disposal.
The next "conservative" President (if there ever is one) will have to realize this too.
Sure would.
But it seems absurd to most people someone could threaten the president like this.
However, DC works in mysterious ways.
They wouldn’t have been direct threats or whatever to his face so no recording/record more an implicit threat I think..
Yep....be sure to not feed $$$ to the GOP monster.
Hi.
Didn’t Jimmah Carter pardon all the draft dodgers?
5.56mm
I think jealousy and envy and greed is part of their TDS, too.
Meaningless, baseless, speculation.
The pardon(s) could have been on the last day of presidency. There was no impeachment pending then.
This guy knows nothing.
I could believe this which is why I very much wanted A Trump term without a reelection looming. I wanted him to throw all caution to the wind
Excellent post. The political elites have a stranglehold on the government. I believe you are profoundly right about your assessment of Trump’s miscalculation (for want of a better word) with regard to the determination and ferocity of the elites to defend the existing power structure in this country that serves them so well.
Presidents are up against a massive, self-serving and corrupt system. Their intentions may be good but one person cannot defeat an entrenched army by themselves. Our system is of the elites, by the elites and for the elites. Barring some kind of political or economic earthquake, I don’t see that changing during our lifetimes.
Trump was the best hope to fight that kind of war because he wasn’t a politician. He was clearly his own person when running for office. Alex Jones is the type of person who would need to be elected to do the all out war type of thing. The Trump Era was a once in a lifetime opportunity to win back freedom peacefully. That’s why they did everything in their power to get every day Americans to hate him and throw away all objectivity. COVID shows just how much that worked.
Dear mercy, I like Greenwood, but what is the purpose of of throwing shade on the President
He worked his heart out for this country.....
...and Greenwood calls him cowardly.
EASY for Greenwood........never had the burden of Presidency
He’s a good reporter but he’s not the end all be al,!!!!!!!!
Trump pardoned dozens of people during his final two days as president, including Steve Bannon.
SSDD
I wanted Trump to clean house on Day 1 of his presidency. He said he was going to drain the Swamp but never really did. His one and only chance to do it was the moment he was sworn in. After that momentary window of time the elites in both parties closed it on him.
Not doing this cost him no end of grief.
Spot on post.
Excellent analysis. Makes sense to me.
Surprised about Rubio, but not the other two. Can’t trust anyone!
Lindsey, Marco and Mitch need to STFU.
The utter corruption of the FBI, CIA, Intel apparatus has been kept under lock and key for far to long EVERYONE in our government is corrupt to the core!! The DEEP STATE needs to be ripped up by the roots!! Graham IS responsible with McCain for the WHOLE damn Russia collusion, it annoys the hell out of me that Trump even talks to Graham!!
Bush League Republicans MUST become extinct.
Even if Trump keeps endorsing them.
