Does Anyone Want an Electric Car?
Road and Track ^ | 7 Jan 2022 | JOHN PEARLEY HUFFMAN

Deloitte’s new report sees a messy future.

A new report from the big-time, grownup pants Deloitte consulting firm indicates just how big an undertaking that is proving to be.

Much of what Deloitte reports is unsurprising. People still vastly prefer personal vehicles over public transportation; are willing to embrace high technology as long as they don’t have to pay for it; that they still want to buy new vehicles in person and not over the internet; and that they’re fine with electric vehicles as long as they’re affordable and at least as good as those relying on internal combustion.

Governments are driving forward with aggressive plans for converting the vehicle fleet to alternative fuels. What prominently emerges from the Deloitte report is that ambitions are one thing, and reality is something else.

“There are a lot of big, all-in bets being made,” Robinson asserts. “We’re right in the middle of a very messy time.”

Most people in Finland and Iceland pretty much live in one city: Reykjavik or Helsinki, and rarely have to venture out beyond those metro areas.

Your post makes no sense. It has absolutely nothing to do with my post.

Yes they are.... and simultaneously, I’m seeing all kinds of other pushes to displace coal and natural gas and convert the applications to electrical. At the same time there are no massive plans for generating electricity beyond the IUs... and even if wind/solar weren’t in there usual ‘interruptibles/unreliables mode (which they are approx. 80% of the time), it wouldn’t be near enough. Anyone here do a recent analysis that compared the potential electrical requirements if all the cars currently on the road are replaced with electrical over say the next 10 years and compared that to all the new nuclear power that is coming on line? At this rate, I’m seeing a massive shortfall and that will be disaster.

Can you imagine being on a list to pick up your electric car but then told that you’ll have to go on to a second list to get it filled up with electrons....

I am personally NEVER a test case for any new product ( unless they pay me or give me the product for free ).

Smart phones, software, apps, operating systems, etc. I only buy and use them after millions of others have used them and are satisfied based on cumulative reviews.

Same is true with the vaccines.

Same applies to Electric Vehicles. You want to be Beta users of the EVs? Knock yourself out. I’ll wait.

Not many want them, and if the electric vehicles don’t sell, then the autoworkers are going to lose their jobs. That is why Biden is pushing the $12,500 rebate for union made EVs, because nobody is going to buy them otherwise. Biden is trying to use taxpayer money to protect union jobs.

If Colin Chapman could return from the dead and design an all out electric version of the Europa, I would be all in.

EV does not mean freedom and if the Democrats want it so bad there’s something wrong with it

Not me. I like burning fossil fuels. I have an electric motor on my bicycle because I am lazy. Do you grasp the concept of my convenience?

I’m not against electric cars, but I want the option to buy the car I like. If I like a gas car then I want the option to buy it. Both cars can use the road harmoniously.

Why in tarnation would I want to buy and drive an expensive electric appliance with all their heavy luggage, limits and hangups? I just picked up a dual sport motorcycle that can literally go nearly anywhere, it will almost climb a vertical wall if need be, is great on pavement, dirt, mud, rocks, any terrain, and takes 30 seconds to to fill up...Super versatile...In any weather. And it gets nearly 60 miles per gallon. Reliability? They've been making nearly the same exact model/engine for 20 years. A testament to it's bullet proof the reliability, all while keeping it's carbon footprint microscopic.

I do! I do!

Then I could plug it into the neighbor’s outdoor socket and get free electricity!

Which means I wouldn’t have to sneak around at night siphoning their gas. Nasty tasting stuff. Someone should do something about that. Maybe cotton candy-flavored gas. That’d be sweet.

J/K. I don’t have a car. Don’t want one. Especially not an electrical boondoggle.

"Again, what is the “problem” EVs are trying to solve?"

Non-Party members just hopping in THEIR car, and going.

This "freedom" thing is way out of control.

My diesel...reasonably well equipped and quite comfortable...can do 810 (Interstate) miles on a tank. I've done it twice. When empty I can refill it in about 4 minutes at any one of about 40,000 stations from coast to coast.

Do I want an EV? Not in this lifetime....or the next.

"I am not saying there are not problems with electric vehicles but you used a bad example."

So you've never been left sitting in 15 degree weather, trapped in a foot of snow, in a traffic jam, freezing your patoots off? Lights on, wipers and defrosters blasting, heater going full blast, radio on to find out just how long, and whether your exit is closed? In Oklahoma, Texas?

Go ahead and turn off your car, you SPECTACULAR ASS! Make sure you pin your name and address to your coat, for your next of kin,
