Turkish TV series makes heroes out of Islamic terrorists

Unlike their Western counterparts, many Muslims are fond of their heroes of the past.

Unlike their Western counterparts, many Muslims are fond of their heroes of the past — particularly the jihadist types who for centuries thrived on terrorizing the West.

This was recently underscored by Barbaros: Sword of the Mediterranean, a television series, written and produced in Turkey, that aired late last year and is dedicated to highlighting the clash between Islam and Christendom — in a way, of course, that demonizes the latter and extols the former.

The highly fictionalized series revolves around four Muslim brothers and their naval exploits and battles against the Christian maritime states of the Mediterranean.

While the series portrays the brothers as great heroes who sacrificed much to "defend" the Ottoman Empire against Christian Europe, history — real, actual, recorded history — has a different tale to tell.

In brief, the four brothers began life as common Barbary pirates ("corsairs"). The eldest of these brothers, Oruch, was notoriously sadistic, and once "ripped out the throat of a Christian with his teeth and ate the tongue," to quote historian Roger Crowley in Empires of the Sea. He also "tied the head of a Hospitaller knight to a rope and twirled it like a globe until the eyeballs popped. In Spain and southern Italy people crossed themselves at his name."

Our media makes heroes out of BLM and ANTIFA so our media is siding with evil too.

“until I have killed the last one of you and enslaved your women, your daughters, and your children.”

Turks terrorized Middle East, Southern and Eastern Europe for hundreds of years. Millions of Europeans were enslaved by the Turks. Even now grandmas in that area scare unruly kids by claiming that “Suleiman” will come and take you away.
No wonder, Turks are generally disliked especially in Balkans, whose Christians suffered the worst.
This is a tragic history, not really reported in the US.

I don't know if we still have a base. I am pretty sure Turkey is still in NATO which I always thought was a huge mistake.

Interesting, when I was traveling around in Eastern Europe especially Romania there are a lot of Turks that live there, I wonder how they feel about Vlad Tepes and the knights that killed their ancestors.

For one, Turks moved to “Turkey” after 1000 AD. It was actually rather small group of real Turks. Turkey was all part of Byzantine Emporium and inhabited by mostly Greeks, Armenians, Kurd and others. Genetically Turks are mostly Greeks, forcibly converted to Islam and turned into Turks.
After conquering Little Asia, Turks kept going, taking over Greece, Serbia Bulgaria, Rumania, Hungary, Ukraine and more. Also Middle East and North Africa. Always killing, maiming, destroying and taking slaves.
Eventually cards turned around and all those nations were slowly freeing ourselves, still fighting. Remember, that Turks were finally kicked out of Balkans during First Balkan war in 1912-1913!
Regardless, the Turks who stayed there, after Balkans war, were treated a lot more humanly than their subject before. At least no slavery! That while Turks finished their “mission” by Armenian Genocide in ~1915. And massacres of Greek civilians during the Greek Turkish conflict in 1922.

Always a bad idea to start out with an utterly idiotic statement. (Though good old Ray always manages to slip a few into his articles.)

I couldn't begin to list the Western childhood heroes of days gone by...
