She wanted her husband to be like a house. Something to serve her. Something she can renovate and fix to her standards. And when she doesn’t like something she tears it out and changes it. I would imagine she henpecked him the same way she would have treated a house. People aren’t like that and she had a seething resentment toward him.

And then, just like the kitchen makeover was never "exactly" what she wanted, her henpecked, changed husband was now NOT what she actually wanted!

Unfortunately, I have seen WAY too many marriages go this direction...often because the husband changed his wife into what he "thought" he wanted or the wife changed the husband into what she "thought" she wanted.

It is SAD when people can't allow their spouse to be whomever the spouse wants to be, so long as it supports and builds their marriage.

I've heard that women go looking for the perfect man. And when they find him, they insist on changing him into something that more perfectly matches her standards. But men often do not like to be changed. This can be a sore spot and lead to many divorces.
