There is a risk of myocarditis, an inflammation of the heart muscle, in young people from the vaccine. But it is rare, and symptoms of the condition are normally mild. The CDC and others say the benefits of the vaccine far outweigh the risks.
The CDC said the only confirmed fatalities related to the COVID-19 vaccines are nine deaths from a blood clot disorder tied to the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
Deaths and other adverse events reported to the government’s VAERS database do not mean they are confirmed to have been caused by the vaccine.
A Texas cardiologist recently made a claim about the risk of myocarditis in teens from the COVID-19 vaccine, citing a study that health experts raised doubts about in September. He also floated a debunked claim that 45,000 Americans have died from the vaccine.
Dr. Peter McCullough made the claims in an appearance on the "DarkHorse Podcast; an article about his appearance, from the website Conservative Fighters, carried the headline: "Top cardiologist: Study shows COVID vaccines are more dangerous than covid itself."
"The most shocking thing in the Hoag analysis was that a child ages 12-17 is more likely to be hospitalized with myocarditis than taking your chances with COVID and ever getting hospitalized with COVID," McCullough claimed.
The claim is not accurate. Public health experts say the benefits of the COVID-19 vaccine outweigh the risks for teens.
McCullough was referring to a study by Dr. Tracy Hoag and others posted to MedRxiv, a site where researchers post preliminary versions of scientific papers before they are peer reviewed. PolitiFact found that several doctors and researchers pointed out flaws in that study’s methodology.
McCullough, president of the Cardio Renal Society of America and editor of the journal Reviews in Cardiovascular Medicine, is a frequent Fox News guest and has a talk radio show called "The McCullough Report" on the America Out Loud network. His biography on the network’s website says he is "among the world’s experts" on the virus.
However, McCullough has made several claims during the pandemic that have been debunked by fact-checkers, such as that healthy people under 50 don’t need the COVID-19 vaccine and that vaccines offered no protection against the delta variant.
Baylor Scott & White Health, the large Texas-based health system, cut ties with McCullough in February and got a temporary restraining order against him in September, accusing him of continuing to claim an affiliation with it in media interviews, a claim he denied, according to Medscape.
McCullough’s claim that teens are more at risk from the vaccine due to myocarditis is not accurate. Health officials acknowledge there is a risk of the heart disorder but say it’s rare and that cases are generally mild.
Hospitalizations of teens due to COVID-19 infection remain low, compared with other age groups, CDC data shows, but the risk of illness or death due to the virus is greater than the risk from myocarditis, health experts say.
Martha Sharan, a spokesperson for the CDC, said that cases of myocarditis after the COVID-19 vaccine are still being investigated.
"It shares some features with typical viral myocarditis in terms of the age and sex distribution, the presenting symptom of chest pain, and various lab values. However, myocarditis after COVID-19 vaccine has less occurrence of heart failure and has a milder acute clinical course," Sharan said.
She added that "short-term outcomes of myocarditis after COVID-19 vaccine are much better than those of typical viral myocarditis," and that studies of the long-term outcomes are continuing.
When the vaccines first started coming out, doctors were seeing a small number of males in the 15-to-24 age group with symptoms of myocarditis, including chest pain, low-grade fever, and some changes in MRIs and EKGs, said Dr. Stuart Berger, chief of cardiology in the Department of Pediatrics at Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago.
"These were kids that got symptoms resolved over a very short period of time, probably 24 to 48 hours, so went home and were fine," Berger said.
Berger added that "the incidence of that was much, much, much smaller than myocarditis in the general population that is not related to COVID."
Berger said people, even children, are at much higher risk of getting sick or dying from COVID-19 itself or from Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome, which has been reported in many children who have had COVID-19.
His recommendation to his patients? Get the vaccine.

As for COVID, there is no speculation as to whether COVID will agree with me or not - I’m COVID recovered and NO shots for me .... how did that happen?
For 6-8 months prior, I prophylacted on Dr. Z’s protocol. I also made sure my Vit D levels were way up. On day 2 of symptoms, I took ivermectin. Headache, chills, aches, impending sore throat were gone by day 3. Fatigue/brain fog lasted until Day 6 & then vanished.
Taking charge of my own health and being prepared got me through COVID. So now I’ve got “natural” immunity and 100% free of any “vaccine” side effects. That’s a win for me.

I understand completely what you mean, Paradox. And I blame this, 100% on the government.
The Media, Big Tech, Pharmaceutical industry, and Healthcare industry are complicit in this and will have to someday answer for it. But the driver of all this is a malignant bureaucratic government with unelected officials driving the actions, and doing so in a manner opaque to the citizenry, and criminally so.
I say I blame it primarily on the government, because it is their job to provide us as citizens with accurate and unbiased information. What we as citizens are getting is neither. If it were ignorance and ineptitude (as Scott Atlas seems to imply in much of his book) that would be bad enough, but there are too many pointers to malfeasance and deception to believe is is simple inaccuracy or ignorance.
It is fascism, pure and simple. These mandates would have been coming from the Federal Government, but they can’t do that because they know it is unconstitutional. Instead, they have (by their own and open admission) been driving this to the states, towns, and into individual businesses using Federal carrots and sticks. (and entities like healthcare are entirely willing, because they have been trying for decades to make annual vaccinations mandatory for employees, but have been unable to do so. This is their chance, and they are grabbing it with both hands.) In any case, court challenges to vaccine mandates served up in this fashion by individuals or small groups are by their nature going to be disjointed, picked off one by one by a side with unlimited resources and power, and will result in entrenched infringements on our Constitutional rights.
I have heard enough from the “other side” (promoting universal vaccination) on this to realize they don’t have the welfare of citizens or patients at heart. I had a Freeper send me a link to some Internet celebrity doctor who calls himself ZDawgMD which was supposed to be a rebuttal of Dr. McCullough’s interview with Joe Rogan. I watched ten minutes of it, and didn’t need to go further. This “ZDawgMD” engaged in emotional responses and cited things like “logical fallacies”, “appeals to authority” and other things along those lines without providing specific rebuttal, and then began an ad hominem attack on Dr. McCullough.
I have worked in healthcare for nearly 40 years clinically, in administration, and in IT, so it is true that I am not a physician and don’t pretend to be, but I am familiar with the various aspects and can discuss them and learn. I can read and understand the concepts of many medical journals even if I don’t have specific knowledge in that field.
And I am not “Anti-Vaccination”. I have had, as a military dependent, and an active duty serviceman, as well as my years in healthcare, more cheerfully accepted vaccinations than most Citizens than anywhere on Earth. I even accepted this COVID-19 vaccination very early, as a healthcare provider, because it was voluntary, and it is what I do for patients. (Note: I did not research it in depth before I received it, I have never had to. I always did it for the patients we care for, and that was the end of it.) Now that it is not voluntary in my profession, I am against it tooth and nail for that reason alone.
With all that said, it doesn’t even come down to that for me on this subject.
And I have taken the time to learn about this because it is important. There is more at stake here than people getting sick from a pathogen, more at stake than where it came from/how it got here, and more at stake than a host of related societal and medical issues.
What is at stake is the role of government in our Constitutional Republic, and how in this crisis, it has betrayed us.
All the terrible things from that betrayal, the possible release of a bioweapon by a foe, tens or hundreds of thousands of unnecessary deaths, the bankrupting of our society and the destruction of our seed crop of future citizens by destroying their education and social development for several years or more due to this, all of that is a result of a malignant government whose intentions are only revealed by their observable actions.
Twice, I have watched Dr. McCullough’s three hour interview with Joe Rogan, the second time to ensure I understood his perspective. As someone who has been primarily concerned with the welfare of patients for my entire adult life, I can almost always tell who really cares and who doesn’t by observing their actions and listening to their words.
In observing the NIH, CDC, FDA, NAID, and other governmental entities, I have seen in their actions that the welfare of individual patients is not at the forefront. Quite the contrary. Their deliberate suppression of off-label uses of drugs to combat the suffering of patients known to be ill from this pathogen (in direct and unequivocal contradiction to accepted medical practice of allowing them to met un-met needs in healthcare) is telling to me. That alone tells me volumes.
Never mind the ad hominem attacks on those who buck the bureaucratic orthodoxy being dispensed downstream from the government into Healthcare, Big Tech, the Media, Education, and even Entertainment. It isn’t a coincidence.
I have already made this a longer response than I strove to make it, and for that I apologize. I have never been amenable to the Twitter character limit in a discussion.
Let me say this in summary: I don’t need details to figure out who cares more about the welfare of suffering patients and frightened citizens.
In this, I see two entities, one is deliberately blind and deaf, sitting at a desk with a preconceived tunnel-vision solution that they are determined to pursue, willing to lie, misinform, and defame anyone who differs, no matter the cost in life.
I contrast that with another entity, who is directly treating patients, seeing the suffering and needless death, rightfully views the treatment guidelines as horribly wrong and misguided, risking his reputation, his license, and his livelihood to speak out with rationality and common-sense to be allowed to deliver compassionate care.
I don’t have to know the minute details to know who I support. If you want details, I can serve up a select few telling ones in another post if you wish.

The thing is, many assertions made now can only be revealed by TIME. With Operation Warp Speed and the world wide emergency caused by Covid-19, we did not have the standard time to evaluate the vaccines thoroughly, so long term effects, say, in 5 years, cannot be observed now.
But here’s my question to you... say, you were in charge of school health policy in your state or city, would you MANDATE that all school children take the vaccine as a condition for attending school?
Please give your reasons regardless of what your answer is.
My heart aches-literally aches for parents who have made and will make the decision to have their child injected with this.
Sure, there are many who may have no reason for regret, as their child may have no repercussions from getting it.
But if a parent cares for their child, and something happens such as a life-crippling or fatal myocarditis, there will be no depth of black sorrow they will be able to plumb to reach the bottom.
Some may say they deserve it, but...most of those people will be like many here, myself included at some point in their past, that they didn’t think the government would foist something like this on the citizenry. They assumed all the normal practices for ensuring safety and such would take place. After all...the very agencies PUSHING it are the ones who are supposed to protect us as citizens, right?

The survival rate for both was about the same as the value for COVID.
