The new Netflix film Don’t Look Up is a star-studded allegory about climate change. The world faces a clear and imminent threat, and the question the movie poses is: Will we be able to overcome the narrow self-interests of politicians, the business community, and individual nations to defeat the threat we collectively face? Will too many people around the world be too gullible and passive to demand the right actions from their leaders?
In the case of the film, it does not give away too much to suggest that doing the right thing is a challenge. The film is not just a parable about our inertia when it comes to the ever worsening, nearly irreversible climate crisis - it is a reminder that the idea that the planet will effectively unite in the interest of self-preservation is itself a romantic myth.

The result of course, has been the emergence of new variants in the undervaccinated parts of the world that ultimately affect the whole planet and prolong the pandemic. For Americans, the short-sightedness of government leaders is familiar. While the Biden Administration has done a remarkable job in getting Americans vaccinated, they have faced resistance at every step of the way from red-state governors who seem willing to sacrifice their own people in order to pander to the leaders of their party and the most extreme elements of their base. The vaccine and the know-how to contain the disease are available everywhere. But people living in counties that voted for Donald Trump are almost three times as likely to die of COVID-19 as those in areas that voted for President Biden.

We can’t come together on anything political, let alone “climate change”.
I thought this was satire or something....until I realized this wackjob is serious.
This is what passes for intellectualism in colleges nowadays. Total whackjobbery and irrationality.
The overall climate in any given location has changed for the better or worse, repeatedly throughout time.
The writer needs to offer some verifiable proof for this assertion.
It has been some version of “only 10 years left” since at least the 1970s, which was 60 years ago. Still nobody is cracking down on China and India to force them to fall in line regarding CO2 emissions.
Are the doomsayers familiar with the concept of crying wolf? Nobody with any sense believes their dire predictions.
I saw it more as an allegory on Wuhan and the cynical responses to it.
Maybe something else but certainly NOT climate.
Climate collapse has been imminent since the 1960’s.
“PROOF? You want PROOF? We don’t need no steenkin’ PROOF! Trump is an outrage. Any claim of his deep and terrible terribleness is an act of moral bravery. Trump hatred is courageous. Trump hatred will save the planet. Vitriolic extravagance against him is a call to arms.”
This is the gospel of the left. It authenticates itself by its sheer volume. The Karen party will overcome us with its outrage, or not.
The writer will not be able to offer any verifiable proof because it’s a lie.
Yet, there is no outrage from the left that China has poisoned the planet with an experimental virus that has killed millions, and continues to rage across the world. They don’t have to wait nine years, death is here today. In fact, gain of function experiments continue.
“How dare you!”
It’s always “come together” when democrats are in charge.
“Nineteenth-century scientists understood the concept and, in 1896, Svante Arrhenius published the first paper explicitly warning of this threat.”
Obviously, if they’d parked their destructive SUVs back then, we’d be fine now.
“Don’t Look Up” is a movie with a message aimed at one thing that misses its target and hits another thing.
The Left is so willfully ignorant about what they stand for and what they are doing to our Country, that they can’t even fathom that they are making fun of themselves in that movie.
Thank you for wading into the Daily Beast pit for us. They are as bad as The Hill in my opinion.
I thought the movie “Don’t Look Up” was an allegory for Covid coming at you, and could have easily been called “Wear YourMask”.
“How dare you!”
Not quite enough retching as in=
Cow. Deer. Ewe.
(Not original to me)
The Babylon Bee needs to make a Netflix film about the imminent threat of unicorns taking over the world.
Do it with the same over the top drama... and with as many ‘experts’ they can round up - as if ‘science’ is something t voted on by celebrities... NOT ONE WARMIST FORECAST HAS COME TRUE. Not one. And none will.
So make the unicorn movie - let’s have some fun.
