The way it works is a letter stands for another letter. For example: AXYDLBAAXR is LONGFELLOW (does not apply to today's cryptogram).
Beware, the game is very addictive. If this is your first time, don't be intimidated, you’ll be solving them all within a few days. If you’re stumped, take a break and return to it.
PLEASE DO NOT post the answer in general comments, but DO post your time and how you made out.
You can certainly send your solution to my private reply, or if you need a hint for today’s Cryptogram ASK THE GROUP FOR HELP!
I suggest printing these out and work them on paper. If you need a little help you can copy and paste it to Hal’s Helper below.
You can then work on the puzzle without using pen and paper, but I recommend that you do NOT look at the letter counter.
HAL'S CRYPTOGRAM HELPER
One last request. Feel free to post a fun or clever clue, the more tangential to the quotation the better, but please don’t put the actual words of the quote in the clue.
A quote for this day.
If you need a clue ask the group to send you a letter to your private reply.

Not to bad today. Happy New Year’s
A few minutes. Almost as fast as I could click, but not quite. I’m the eighth I am?
Sixth. In life as well as in comedy, timing is everything...
Author is a giveaway. I could have hid it by using only the last name or just initials.
I’ve been doing these puzzles since the 80s. If an author has 3 names...
My daughter was born in Emerson* Hospital in Concord. They sent her home with a pacifier and teething ring, which we yclept Ralph Waldo Pacifier and IBUMD ANKGA Teething Ring. (*Like Emerson Playground on HIPMBNW Street, it was named for a different Emerson, who donated land to the town for a playground and hospital.)
You are right when you say, “author”. Once you know the author the seemingly nonsense words suddenly become perfectly clear and sensible.
BTW…. Happy New Year to you all. my advice for the year is to resist the FEAR (if you have Christ Jesus in your life there is nothing to fear), and embrace LOVE (instead of hatred). Each morning, after reading the news on Free Republic, I need a distraction and here it is, Nikos and Lonesome to the rescue. Thanks guys, God bless you!
If the author has three names, 5-5-7, there is generally a pattern. If the middle name is ABACD it’s this guy, if the last name is ABACDEF, it’s the other.
N ZPUZBUHMNHBA NUA UWHHD QBMUBV
Obviously ABACD in my previous should have been: ABCDA. You know what I meant.
I’m with you!
We’ll thank you for that!
Yes 🤣 Happy New Year!
