Angelotta, 43, worked at a ski shop at the Northstar California Resort and told friends he was going skiing before meeting them for Christmas dinner, the Sheriff’s Office said.
His ski pass was last used Saturday morning on a lift.
Over six days, 220 people from 17 agencies and rescue organizations searched for him using skiers, snowmobiles and a helicopter, the Sheriff’s Office said.
“The search conditions included high winds, whiteout conditions, overnight temperatures in the teens and over seven feet of new snow since the beginning of the search,” the agency said.

Tree well got him?
He’ll show up in the spring
I’ve only skied a handful of times, but I would think skiing is like SCUBA diving or mountain climbing. Not something you do alone. Of course I broke that rule diving more than a few times. It’s all good until something goes wrong and you are all on your own.
In bounds or outta bounds?
He’s faking dead?
Book deal.
When I was a ski bum I was by myself in the back country and fell upside down in a tree well. I was upside-down with my feet in the air with heavy cement snow all around. I couldn’t breathe and was about to do a panic jolt with my entire body to try to get out.. Something stopped me from doing that and my mind told me to calm down and reach out. Sure enough there was a broken branch leaning down right next to my hand. I Grabbed it and was able to pull myself up to breathe again.
Yeah, I guess a skier wouldn’t actually be “alone” if the resort was open and slopes full, but I’m guessing this skier must have gone out of bounds or (being an employee) on a closed run.
Was he a friend of Claudine Longet?
“He’ll show up in the spring...”
LOL! Oh, man. FReepers are the best.
Interesting...
A ‘new’ form of ‘Arkancide!’ ;)
That is a very scary predicament you just described.
I’m sure you have never forgotten it.

Probably just parts of the skeleton will show as varmits chew off the meat. Varmits gotta eat too, even if frozen
"He caught an edge there, but he seems to be okay, he’s in good shape.....actually, I think he’s a little.. Uh-oh! He seems to have been accidentally shot by Claudine Longet! Yes.. and I’m afraid Helmut Kindle is out of this race!"
As someone that is INSANELY claustrophobic, your little story gave me a panic attack! *SHUDDER*
Gee. I wonder ‘who’ told you to calm down? ;)
However, even with my phobia, I did learn to build some pretty cool ‘survival snow caves’ around tree trunks in the Army.
Don’t even ASK me what they made us do with the rabbits we trapped. Ugh!
Never! The closest to dying I have ever come. I was living in Steamboat at the time and learned a big lesson that day.
Thank the Lord.
You were so lucky.
Tree wells scare me. I never fail to warn my kids
Thank God!
