ebanon will once again drop a bologna.
Bologna has been a staple in the area since the late 1700s.
Lebanon decided in 1997 to make a massive bologna a part of its New Year's Eve celebration, and the tradition has continued ever since.
This year's festivities will begin at 7 p.m. Friday on South 8th Street between Chestnut and Cumberland streets.
After the drop, Godshall's Quality Meats will donate the bologna to the Lebanon Rescue Mission.

That’s not bologna.
Here in Lebanon County we call that hot dog meat.

Sweet or tangy? I like either, served on fresh white bread with Gulden’s and potato chips on the sandwich.

I grew up in Lebanon, or as the locals would say back in the 60s: Lepnon.

Lebanona’s neighbors drop some interesting things:
Harrisburg - Strawberry for “Strawberry Square”
Dillsburg - Dill pickle
Mechanicsburg - Wrench
Red Lion - Cigar
Seven Valleys - Chicken (specialty of the Valley Tavern)
West York - Dog bisquit (for the West York Bulldogs—HS mascot)
Lancaster - Red Rose (cancelled by pandemic Puritans)
York - White Rose (cancelled by pandemic Puritans)

No crock of sauerkraut, either.
Lebanon’s bologna is the closest to kielbasa that you’ll find.

I think they drop a goat in Falmouth. I guess that is one way to tenderize meat.
