Key Points

Question  Is immune dysfunction associated with an increased risk for COVID-19 breakthrough infection after SARS-CoV-2 vaccination?

Findings  In this cohort study of 664 722 patients who received at least 1 dose of a SARS-CoV-2 vaccine, those with immune dysfunction, such as HIV infection, rheumatoid arthritis, and solid organ transplant, had a higher rate for COVID-19 breakthrough infection and worse outcomes after full or partial vaccination, compared with persons without immune dysfunction.

Meaning  The findings suggest that persons with immune dysfunction are at much higher risk for contracting a breakthrough infection and thus should use nonpharmaceutical interventions (eg, mask wearing) and alternative vaccination approaches (eg, additional dose or immunogenicity testing) even after full vaccination.

Breakthrough. You left out the word 'Breakthrough'.

They pushed the vax on the elderly and those with weak immune systems saying it would protect them. Then the elderly and those with weak immune systems died as often as, and sometimes more often than, those who were not vaxxed.

In return, many elderly and frail were 'dropped' like flies by heart attacks, strokes, blood clots etc. So they incurred horrible risks and injuries/deaths with no benefit, all based on lies like the ones you tell.

It’s weird because I have R. Arthritis and my specialist said to go for the shot. And I have even written him a text message that expresses my concern about whether increasing immunity would hurt me because, as jacquej posted, R. arthritis is your immune system attacking the body. I haven’t heard back from him.

Autoimmune diseases are suppressed by down regulating immune system by different meds...that is why they have poor immune response. Transplant patient have medicine induced immunosuppression also. Plus specific autoimmune diseases attack certain tissues....not necessarily infectious agents.

Who could possibly have predicted that older and/or immune compromised people would be more susceptible to breakthrough infections? Paging Dr. Obvious.

So they pressured them to get vaxxed and now they are sicker, and some are dead via the vax.

Medical people knew this would happen but they leveraged the elderly, weak into getting a vax that only harms them and doesn’t prevent illness. I see you’re on board with their reasoning.

Thank you for your kind words and link. I don’t want to take the vaccine, even if I didn’t have this illness. I think we just don’t know enough about the vaccine. Right now I am taking the biologic Xeljanz, and it is a miracle drug. I used to be on Methotrexate, and it was terrible for me... three days to recover from the side effects. Now, I have no side effects and feel I can run the Boston Marathon (seriously). So I don’t want to disrupt this state of well-being and play around with my immunity with something I have no idea what will happen in both the short term and long term. Thanks again for your concern.

Trying to gain a better understanding about autoimmune issues and the safety of rthe jabs, I came across this.

I am not on any immunosuppressant meds. Unfortunately, I have major problems with steroidal type meds, and sem to be allergic to so many of the drugs docs like to prescribe for the various “popular” ailments of the aging -

Everything I have seen about the safety of the vaccines for people with autoimmune diseases presupposes they are on medications, and what studies there are include only patients who are on medication vs healthy controls.

The second doctor in this video recommends those who are not on medication or whose disease is “uncontrolled” should consult their doctors first before getting the vaccine (toward the end, first part is about allergies):

I am no doctor! It sounds to me like Covid could be dangerous for you if you get it. At the same time, it sounds like you really need to consult your doctors before getting vaccinated, considering your illness and allergies. That is what I would do in your place.

I wish it had been around when my aunt was still living, she suffered so. It still brings tears to my eyes to remember her poor sweet hands.

I can understand your concerns. True, there is much we don’t know about the vaccines. We do know they are less effective in people taking steroids and biologics for diseases like rheumatoid arthritis, and coupled with the loss of efficacy of current vaccines against the new strains ... you have to weigh the possible benefits against the possible risks (including the “unknown unknowns” as someone once famously said). And that decision should be an individual choice, tailored to that person’s current medical condition, etc., and always a free choice.

I have lived a good life, raised successful children, and miss my deceased husband every day. I trust that God will call me home when He sees fit.

If I had my druthers, it would be quick and easy on those who love me, but that is not within my control.

What bothers me the most? So many doctors are being threatened and coerced into pushing the shots on everyone, no matter their health histories, drug sensitivities, allergies.

They are not allowed to prescribe therapeutics, and hospitals are denying these to those who contract the virus. Now, here in NY state, they are threatening to incarcerate anyone they think is a threat to public health and safety?

Ah, jacquej, this makes me so sad for you! These are indeed scary times, and ever so much scarier for those among us like you, who have more reason to fear the virus itself, and very good reasons for not getting the vaccine.

The Covid restrictions in NY are draconian, and I would feel creeped-out if I lived there. So far as I have seen in the news, only people who go to gyms, restaurants, bars, and entertainment venues that require proof of vaccination *and refuse to leave* are arrested. It’s unfair and galling to me that they are barring unvaccinated people from these establishments.

I hope and pray these awful restrictions will soon be rescinded. And will pray for your well being and peace of mind. May He send mighty angels to surround and protect and preserve you, and may you be granted that Peace which passengers all understanding.

At my age, I don’t think any fashionable gym, bar, entertainment venue, etc would weep about elderly me being turned away, considering I can’t afford to tip in the way expected...

That said, we are living in “crazy times”, and as long as I can get food delivered without proof of “jabs”, I will be content with my compatriots on FR And other worthy sources of information and sharing.

Bet you a dollar the usual geniuses think that the paper is saying that the vaccine causes the immune dysfunction. They have a habit of not understanding one word of the studies that they post and simply forging ahead as if the studies support the group’s paranoid fantasies. I don’t think its intentional dishonesty, its due to being quite stupid.
