It would take someone like a Colonel West to get this started. The black Davy Crockett. People are moving to Texas in droves as a primer. We should build on it-strike while the iron is hot.

Better have an army to back up that succession attempt.

At first you don’t secede try and try again.
Texas has proven its ability to self sustain. Their power grid is independent and they had the mechanisms in place to skate through Snowmagedden last year.

It would be legal. It is written. It is legal, but it is not written the way you think it is.
It's legal in terms of the original contract between the states, but Lincoln put the kabash to that.

Texas is the home base of Bush League Republicans.
It was Texas Republicans that have kept the border open and the laws unenforced. Both named Bush.
It was Kay Bailey Hutchison who defunded the Secure Fence Act of 2006 in subsequent legislation.
Cornyn wants amnesty as much as Rubio, Hoeven, Tillis, and the rest of the Bush League.

It would be legal. It is written.
I understand that is no longer the case. After the War of 1861 that was taken out as part of reconstruction.
I would recommend moving towards a de facto soft secession. That means an alternate means of currency recognized by the state, preferably one that translates into gold or silver. That certainly means decoupling from the U.S. National Guard.
But we are not there. At least one-third of Texans would vote for Beto O'Rourke against ANY Republican for ANY office. A whole lot of Texans that lean conservative, including the best of our politicians, will get wobbly when big tech and everything that can move out starts doing so (Apple, Dell, Kimberly-Clark, AT&T, even companies like Bell Helicopter with big defense contracts with history's greatest debtor).
I'm not saying we can't get there, but we aren't yet. Things have to start getting worse. Ideally, Texas would come up with the kinds of laws that chase out the social lefties (the recent abortion law is an excellent example), and we should have laws with national implications (less restrictive vehicle standards, more conservative guidelines for public school text books, drill baby drill) that might get a California or an Oregon to want its own secession for the opposite reasons.
MOST IMPORTANT OF ALL: All talk of secession is blowing smoke as long as Texans still comply with federal mandates that are enforced only by the federal funding mechanism. This is especially the case with public education from Kindergarten up through College.
SECOND, all talk of secession is blowing smoke as long as the Texas college system (e.g. University of Texas at Austin) continues to maintain a conservative-hostile environment using state support to do so.

If Texas secedes, where does that leave the rest of us?
Far better to begin an effort to expel some blue states. What if we kicked New England out of the union? Never again would there be a Dem majority in the House or Senate.

I don’t follow. I know that Texas was at one time its own country. And I know Texas has the right to divide itself into smaller U.S. states. But does Texas have some special right to secede that the other states don’t? Where is that written?
And as a side note, I find it interesting that the United States is always lecturing other countries about the right of self-determination. But try it here and Gen. Sherman comes knocking at your door.

There’s an organized movement for Texas to secede already underway. It’s called the Texas Nationalist Movement and it’s got 426,212 supporters officially signed on. I will vote for it if given the opportunity.
