The only one I have first hand knowledge of is the Mach e. These numbers are accurate to my experience.

It’s a great, comfortable 4 door sporty SUV style vehicle with a ton of acceleration. The tax credit and lack of maintenance or Biden priced gas plus a reasonable price tag makes it economically viable. Plugging in at night is convenient.

Not made for long trips. Commuter car only. The planet doesn’t give a crap what I drive.

Recharge time after max range drive?

Versus the gasoline/diesel refuel time of five minutes.

I have taken my 2009 gas powered Cobalt manual shifter and gotten 55 mpg averaging 60 mph on a real highway. With 13 gal. fuel tank....that is 715 miles. I wonder what my mpg would be with 1.6 liter diesel with manual shifter and better gearing and 200 pd lighter car....and coefficient of drag at O,19...

How are your distribution lines?
How loaded are your substations and transformers?
What size are your conductors?

I work in electrical distribution, this is total BS right now.
We can’t even keep up with heavy contractor presence and tons of OT.
Also, our force is old, and youth don’t find linework appealing.

They say 20 mins at the charging station will get you to 50%. Overnight for a full charge.

You’ll have to map out the charging stations, you don’t want to push it thinking you’ve got juice for 250 miles so you can get to that charging station that’s 210 miles down the road. What if you encounter a backup, or there is a problem at that charging station?

Better keep it to 150 miles or so.

If you want to drive from LA to Dallas, that’s about 1,400 miles.

You’ll be stopping to charge a lot, 3 or 4 times a day, plus overnight charging. That’s if you plan to do about 600 miles a day.

It also doesn’t discuss our infrastructure.
I work in electrical distribution.
Out lines are old and we have work, already, until I’m dead.
Pipe dream...

My criteria would be:

400 miles @ 80mph
30F - heater cranked up to keep wife warm
95F - AC cranked up to deal with Southeastern U.S. summers

IIRC regenerative braking lets EVs recoup most of the energy they use to accelerate. As a result they’re pretty efficient doing stop and go. Where they’re less efficient is at high speeds on the highway since they can’t recoup energy lost to wind resistance. At least I think that’s how it works out.

Who cares about range? That is a red herring. The most important thing is recharge time.

“Electric certainly has its place.”

They do. On a golf course, at a garden center & nursery. In a city.

Teslas have replaced the venerable Mercedes as the car of choice in Orange County CA.

Two of my friends bought 2013 Model S Teslas. Both are now on their second Model S, one because he crashed the first car and the other guy just wanted all of the advanced technology available on the 2020 model. You couldn’t pry them out of these cars.

In this last year three others in this group of friends have all bought Model 3 Teslas. I’ve never heard a single complaint out of any of them.

YOu’re going to find lower than advertised mileage if you speed. Highway mileage presumes 55 MPH. Above that, mileage decreases. My hybrid gets 47 at 55, but 42 at 70.

Thanks. I have a hybrid with regenerative braking, so I know that it works, but it works best with long, slow, deceleration.

If you live somewhere where you go hours to get to where you need to go, you give a **** about range.

In my state, you would have to knock off a few more hundred in your savings because the EV’s have to pay a tax every year

“So I could buy a $150,000 Tesla and it won’t make from San Francisco to Los Angeles.”

You could own two with $150k and have change left over. Model S base price is $80,000. Model 3 is $54,000.

Tesla has plenty of supercharger stations between SF and LA. Takes maybe 20 minutes to charge up.
