Gina Sheldon had been traveling in Italy and France and bought more than $3,000 worth of gifts.

When she opened up her luggage, she found dog food, an old T-shirt, and a bottle of shaving cream.

The flight was booked through Delta but operated by Air France. In a statement to WMUR-TV, Delta apologized for Sheldon's experience.

—”My wife bought a bunch of fancy cake mix in the UK. She found it on sale for something like 15 cents a box.”

This year my wife estimated that her two fruitcakes cost
~$50.00, not counting the rum.

And she had to run to a few stores to find everything.

Yeah, but the it’s a matter of getting it past the TSA, and if they take a fancy to something, all you can do is watch them steal it, instead of not knowing who did it.

baggage thieves will usually not touch checked weapons. The heat from governmental agencies is usually enough to discourage that type of theft. thieves at airports go after low hanging fruit so it’s usually random luggage at an area not covered by a security camera.

Thanks, haven’t seen that in a while.
Yes, of course, I sent it to our grandkids!

IIRC our Australian Shepherds have slightly better table manners?
Or maybe not?

I just stopped flying. Nothing in Europe or Asia that I want to see anymore.

In the US, being retired means I can take a couple of days and drive.

Paris is also a popular route for drug smuggling. The smugglers slice open a distinctive piece of luggage just enough to insert their narcotics, duct tape it and contact a colleague at the arriving airport who removes the narcotics and gets it into the street.

A business colleague in Singapore told me this is how they can detect even a drug residue on arriving luggage. The airport insiders who engage in this sort of trafficking will not only forfeit their jobs, but their lives. The victim who unwittingly provided the luggage gives testimony in exchange for immunity.
