“PURPLE are hard rock; to me, they’re not metal,” he continued. “I’ll probably be killed for saying that, but that’s just the way I feel. SABBATH are exclusively metal, although Tony [Iommi, SABBATH guitarist] has always said SABBATH isn’t metal.”
I agree with Tony. There was no metal in those days just hard rock. One could say some bands were precursors to metal but that’s it.

One of the best live albums of all time…
“Made in Europe” with David Coverdale a close second …
Thin Lizzy “Live and Dangerous” hard on its heels…

Deep Purple in Rock
Machine Head
I saw DP at the Orlando Sports Stadium in 1971, later at the Tampa Stadium. I really liked the old stuff with Rod Evans, but overall the period with Ian Gillian is my favorite.
While I know they ripped off the melody for Sweet Child in Time from It’s a Beautiful Day (Bombay Calling), it’s still kick ass.
To be honest, I never liked Black Sabbath anyway. Even without comparing them to DP.

Someone wrote that the first few moments of Blackmore's "
Highway Star" solo on Made in Japan "sounds like razor blades."
That may be the most poetic, brutal, and accurate description of a musical moment, ever.

I was always partial to Double Live Gonzo. That live cut of Stranglehold was Ted at his best. Added bonus...conservative-and not g$y.

I consider them (Purple) proto-metal; and they were highly astute and skilled musicians.

Ok, now that's funny.
Honestly, I though that a break from the Bidet et al madness would be healthy.
