You can find this fun quotation puzzle, to combat early dementia and senility in us baby boomers, in several daily publications. I challenge us with the best ones out there.

The way it works is a letter stands for another letter. For example: AXYDLBAAXR is LONGFELLOW (does not apply to today's cryptogram).

Beware, the game is very addictive. If this is your first time, don't be intimidated, you’ll be solving them all within a few days.  If you’re stumped, take a break and return to it.

PLEASE DO NOT post the answer in general comments, but DO post your time and how you made out.

You can certainly send your solution to my private reply, or if you need a hint for today’s Cryptogram ASK THE GROUP FOR HELP!

I suggest printing these out and work them on paper. If you need a little help you can copy and paste it to Hal’s Helper below.

You can then work on the puzzle without using pen and paper, but I recommend that you do NOT look at the letter counter.

One last request. Feel free to post a fun or clever clue, the more tangential to the quotation the better, but please don’t put the actual words of the quote in the clue.

It was probably a denarius loosely translated.

Alrighty, all done. Now I’m going shopping today for a new boat, a diamond necklace and a Lamborghini…… oh wait, that’s not a good idea says today’s author.

Tricky. I took me more than five minutes. I started with the one-letter word and the two-letter word before it. Playing with that got me the fourth and fifth words. I took a guess at CKW, and that got me the first word. The rest was slowly pieced together after that.

3 min.

letter pattern gives 4th word; likely guess at grammar gives 2nd & 5th; letter pattern give 8th.

Then take a stab at the author’s name, and it opens up.

That’s my two cents’ worth; probably only worth about half that.

I started with KCT, going through my mental list of possible 3-letter words to find one that had both second and third letters that could possibly serve as double letters in CTTJ and BTCCZ, and at the same time have first and 3rd letters that could serve side-by-side in JKTU. Found a fit pretty quickly and that gave me enough letters in all the remaining words to fill in the blanks.
