Manchin Dares Democrats to Push Him Out of Party
National Review ^ | 12/20/2021 | Brittany Bernstein

Senator Joe Manchin (D., W.Va.) on Monday dared Democrats to push him out of the party if they are unhappy with his views, one day after he announced he will not support President Biden’s “Build Back Better” agenda, effectively killing the bill.

Asked on Hoppy Kercheval’s West Virginia radio show if he believes there is still a place for him in the Democratic party, Manchin replied: “I would like to hope that Democrats feel like I do. I’m fiscally responsible and socially compassionate.”

“Now if there are no Democrats like that, they ought to push me where they want me,” he added.

During the interview, Manchin said he had gotten “to the wit’s end” with the negotiation efforts, saying the White House knows “the real reason” things fell apart.

White House staff “drove some things and they put some things out that were absolutely inexcusable. They know what it is,” he said.

“The bottom line [is] I knew that we could not change, it was never going to change,” Manchin added.

He reiterated that he warned Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer months ago that there needed to be means-testing and work requirements for the child tax credit and that the bill was “very far-reaching.”

“We have been way far apart philosophically,” he added.

It took four sites to find one site that would accept contributions to Joe Manchin. The other three claimed to have processing errors only after you enter all your data.

They are tryingto stop the wave of public support via donations to him. I am sure it's blowing the lid off the libs.

Just what our side needs. Another Rino.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
One more RINO places the Dems in the minority. I’ll take as many RINO’s as needed to do that

Manchin is either an idiot or is being paid by thw leftist billionaires to do what he is doing.

No. He's in West Virginia. He knows if he is kicked out they will lose him and other electable Democrats. He has to call the Squad/Pelosi axis' bluff. Sixty years ago, the entire old South was Democrat. Now it is Republican. WV votes over-whelmingly Republican in other national elections. They can't risk him.

He’s paid off by the Establishment of the United States. No different than McCain was.

The leftwing media and the blue koolaid crazies are melting down over both Manchin and Sinema.

Enter McTurtle( McConnell is getting a woody) offering Money and Committee assignments. It should be interesting how this plays out.

“I am a fiscal conservative with a social conscience”

Cognitive dissonance should hurt. A lot.

Manchin voted to convict Donald Trump twice.

He also probably knew that there weren't enough votes convict so it was safe for him to vote to convict.

Exactly. I don’t understand why the ‘squad’ and their cohort are going ballistic over this. Manchin has telegraphed his leanings on this bill for months.

Come on over, Joe. The water’s fine on this side of the aisle.

I would guess that a whole lot of the denizens of this forum were ‘70s style democrats’, back then.

As Reagan said of himself, they didn’t leave the party - the party left THEM.

"I’m fiscally responsible and socially compassionate.”

"Socially Compassionate" is the term Manchin uses frequently to cover for his support of far left social policies like abortion, the lgbtq agenda, welfare, etc while claiming to have conservative values. As far as fiscal responsibility, he would have enthusiastically supported BBB if they loaded enough bribes for him. With this political move, he ensures they will not underestimate him again. The only thing that surprises me is that Mitch was able to keep the squishy rinos in line.

“One more RINO places the Dems in the minority. I’ll take as many RINO’s as needed to do that”

How DARE you say you prefer RINOs to Democrats!!!! We don’t do that here, our priority is to let the Democrats win and destroy the country first and then claim that we had nothing to do with the outcome because, well, there were no RINOs involved (since we handed all the RINO seats to Democrats).

That way we hold our pointy noses in the air when we walk and say “Don’t blame me, it’s the fault of the Democrats. I had nothing to do with it!”.

"He also probably knew that there weren't enough votes convict so it was safe for him to vote to convict."

Just like a Rino, he'll go along to get along. I don't care what he was thinking when he voted. He still voted to convict twice. He's no better than most of the people in Congress with an R behind their names.

"I guess it's easy, sitting here in the FR peanut gallery, to second-guess."

I'll always question the motives of anyone with a D behind their name, along with plenty of those who claim they're Republicans.

"I’ll take as many RINO’s as needed to do that"

And that's why the Republican Party will never be reformed. Too many people willing to hold their nose when they vote.

Mamchin hasn't been as on board with the far left social agenda as the rest of his party (or a lot of Republicans) have been. He might tell you that he's not as keen on abortion and other policies of his party because of the "compassion" he claims to have.

If lived in his state I'd vote for somebody more conservative, but through the years I've also found that people celebrated as conservative (Dick Cheney, Paul Ryan) have also been wrong and not worth very much.

He has a 60% approval rating in West Va as a democrat in 2020. In a state that went Trump by 40%.

Forget it Jake, it’s West Virginia.

I think the democrats really want him to block the bill because they know it is a disaster. Now they can blame the Republicans for blocking all the wonderful things that the bill was supposed to offer. They will claim that they are the true bipartisan party, and they were stopped from fixing the economy and the inflation situation. They can’t make the claim if the bad bill passes.
