Thanx!!
:)
Harry’s Bar is a tourist dump. Besides, they’re racist for serving drinks with ingredients stolen from indigenous peoples.
That said, nothing like a good Bloody! Making it per glass is essential because nobody likes them the same.
Mine: fresh tomatoes, gobs of fresh horseradish (prepared - don’t go au natural w/ this weed), Worcester, Tabasco, salt, pepper, celery & seed, and lime - w/ Mt. Gay, of course.
I can’t do Clamato bc of allergies, but my parents/ grandparents always used it, so dunno what difference a clam makes.
damn frogs!!
Hitler’s invasion of France shut down Harry’s... Harry escaped to London and tended bar at the Cafe de Paris.
French—I didn’t know that! Makes me wish I had one right now!
Sorry to hear that. I only went there once, on my first trip abroad in 1984. Seemed like the clientele were mostly French, and it really was a fun, classy place.
You’re welcome. I discovered it this time of year a few years back at a liquor store where I was buying wine to bring over to a party. It was new (or new to me anyway) and on sale for $1.99 so I got one to try because I don’t like those watered down mixers.
I went back a few days later and bought two cases. It’s thick and full of flavor. They make a spicy one too. Just watch the salt intake, Friend. Sometimes I have to add a little water to the glass. Though I haven’t been drinking much this year. Pandemic year v1.0 I drank enough for two years.
Bloody Marys and mimosas are the perfect breakfast drinks after those nights when you’ve had one too many.
Haven’t been to Harry’s Bar in Paris but have visited the one in Venice.
Went to Harry’s bar maybe 20 years ago. Was nothing special except for the history of it. A Parisian took us there. Not sure if it’s a tourist trap or not. Just stayed for one drink. Didn’t make an impression and never thought to go back.
Went to the Hemingway Bar at the Ritz Hotel many times. It also has a lot of history. Used to go smoke Cuban cigars in there. Colin the (former?) bartender was well known. Met the family of Rupert Murdoch there, too. Of course they stayed at the Ritz! I just drank there. Met and drank with lots of eccentric people and celebrities there. Went back a few years ago and asked for the cigar menu they looked at me like I was crazy. Paris outlawed indoor smoking I guess. Quelle Horreur!
Publix had Quail eggs yesterday.
Never made it to the Hemingway Bar. Harry’s is busy and they just don’t care — although I’m sure if you’re a regular it’s great, but so is any place. And perhaps it’s gone down hill from the 80s — so much is different now.
I don’t get out much anymore, but what I do miss from traveling back in the day were those places that knew me well: “Your table is waiting, Sir/Monsieur/Senor...” even when you just walk in without a reservation, and your favorite drink is on the table before asking.

yes, it disappeared for a while, and made me very sad.
If you’re in a hurry to hit bottom for AA purposes, make one with Clamato juice.
its ok
Spicy V8, Worcestershire sauce, celery stick and 4 oz Grey Goose.😎
