Amtrak has suspended their vaccine mandate just days after the railroad service began cutting services due to vaccine related staffing shortages, according to Reuters' David Shepardson.
In a Tuesday statement, Amtrak - like many other businesses lately - pointed to a recent federal court decision halting the enforcement of President Biden's Executive Order for federal contractors. The decision "caused the company to reevaluate our policy and to address the uncertainty" surrounding federal requirements.

Trump too unfortunately.
Whenever I see things like this, my attitude is "enjoy it while it lasts". Because things do change.
And I suspect I'm not the only one with a long memory.
No offense intended, but I think you are imagining rail as it is now, under present conditions, laws, regulations. We simply don't know how it would evolve in a free system
20 years ago, if someone told you that 1 man would create an auto company worth more than all the century-old legacy automakers combined, would you have imagined it possible?
It is all about “cover”. If someone stands up and says no!, then one or two more will as well. Soon that starts a flow and someone in authority starts looking around and says ... hey, there just might be something here to the other side’s message. Lets take a look.
That is what the courts have done. Since that has happened, others are “taking a look” and not likeing what they are seeing. I predict the tide will turn.
Soon people will be asking questions like:
If the vaccine requires so many boosters, is it really a vaccine?
Since the vaccinated can get sick, can’t they also transmit Covid?
Why are the vaccinated taking up so many hospital beds?
What to the Covid vaccines really do?
Do I want a person who is vaccinated and carrying a viral load in my house / business / public?
LOVE IT! I chuckled heartily visualizing my opponents reaction!
I've witnessed more than one irreplaceable person retire where on the company's luckiest day they could find the three unicorns needed to replace them but it's not going to happen.
2008 was also a milestone year in this country since so many got downsized or outsourced while companies like GM and Wall Street firms got bailed out with taxpayers' money. Those who got kicked to the curb have since gone mercenary and wisely taught the same to their family and friends coming behind them.
If the illegal COVID-1984 diktats teach anyone anything, it's that the ability to readily jump ship is more valuable than straight pay and compensation. Companies are going to pay a premium for talent for hard-to-fill positions that don't transfer well.
The trust is officially broken and these Pfascists are going to deal with a future of problem after problem.
I had no idea Amtrak has regulatory authority to ignore the president? Nice. How about spreading that around a bit?
What really happened was that the suits were catching flack and were on the verge of being booted from their cozy offices and forced to actually go to work.... and none of them had any real capabilities other than watching porn on their computers.
Hi.
I predict the new Rona variant will be called the Andromeda Strain, and the tyrants will demand that if you ain’t vaxed you ain’t participating in commerce.
All of this is/was predictable. There’s a Book on this.

Excellent comments. Ditto
“Amtrak is still around? What the....????”
I’ve taken plenty of Amtrak rides.
If I felt like driving three hours to my nearest Amtrak station I might consider a trip...but it’s unlikely.
How do their employees who didn’t want to get it, but did get it because of the threat of being fired now feel?
“I am on a Facebook Amtrak fan group. Full of liberals.”
Years ago I was told that Amtrak is a make-work project for blacks. It never was supposed to be more or than that.
“This is how (democracy) ends: to thunderous applause.” - Senator Amidala (I’m sure it has been said before).
I don’t know. Officially it was an idea to “save” passenger RRs by buying them up and putting them under the gov.
Could’ve been but never even heard such a rumor from my dad, the RR nut.
I’ve considered Amtrak in the past, but it’s not a reasonable travel method if you don’t have all the time in the world. I could drive quicker, and that by taking a lot of stops.
All these people should sue. There should be a MASSIVE lawsuit by a class-action group against the gov, number 1.
Actually trains are fantastic - if you live very near.
There is none of the nonsense about airports and all the extra wasted time added on there. Further, airports are usually located well away from the actual points of interest, whereas the train is right in there (NYC, to wit).
Air is only worth it after a certain distance….maybe. Not sure what that is….maybe a 3-hr trip on train is the limit.
It takes as long to drive to your destination and you are worn out doing it. Might as well enjoy the rest.
Amtrak is a largely black employee company iirc
