For close to a year, NBC News’ investigative team, in partnership with the Pulitzer Center’s Rainforest Investigations Network, has dug deep on deforestation, including why one of the world’s most common fabrics isn’t as environmentally friendly as previously thought, how the rise of electric cars like Tesla is increasing the demand for nickel mining that is encroaching on a Philippines rainforest,

LOL! They are turning against each other.
It’s all America’s fault and can be taken care of with a tax increase.
There, I saved y’all a week of TV watching.
Sounds like a good report. The increase in EVs means we will have to extract more from rare earth minerals which is harmful to the environment.
I’ve been hearing about the demise of the rainforests since the early 1970’s.
Haven’t they cut that thing down yet? Sting warned me about it in the 80s saying it would be gone in a few years.
Profiting on more of the problems libtards are creating instead of speaking up beforehand 🤪
As usual
If NBC really cared about the climate they would shut off electricity to all of their operations.
How dare they use electricity!
All “recyclable”, “sustainable” and “green” solutions are very polluting and damaging to the environment!
Just look around, how much beautiful countryside has been covered by solar cells and windmills!
Concrete, roads to access, destroying the land, killing birds, turtles, poisonous waste.
Slave works, mining of resources.
For a few years now I’ve been warning people the environmental left would turn against electric vehicles just when they start becoming affordable and practical for the common people. Enviromarxists don’t want commoners enjoying the freedom and independence that cars provide, electric or gasoline. I knew the commies would find *some* “environmental” excuse why the 99% should have to settle for bicycles and mass transit. It looks like “the rain forest” is their excuse. And notice how the media and pop culture are trashing Tesla lately, ever since Musk moved to Texas and criticized Californication?
I know a man who has spent 30 years working to save the endangered Okapi, which are native to only a specific region of the rainforest in NE Democratic Republic of Congo
He was instrumental in creating a 14,000 sq/km reserve, which included protecting it from, poachers, rebels, miners and loggers. 6 of his people and 14 okapi were killed by MaiMai rebels in 2012
He works with the local pygmy tribes to protect the species and repair the damage done to the flora and fauna
This one man and his benefactor have done more in their lives to “save the planet” than every politician in DC ever thought of doing
He’s not a tree hugger, his motivation is saving this particular species from extinction, in which saving the rainforest is vital to this animals survival
So, I have some newfound respect for his mission
Not sure how aware you are ... but the cobalt that is essential to lithium battery technology for EV ... major mining is out of central Africa. Known warring factions and human rights abuses (e.g. look up Dodd -Frank, conflict minerals). Also note that China is a major conduit of these metals from central Africa since politically correct western nations have abandoned (stopped exploiting) these nations.
But they are okay with China exploiting them. So if you want it cobalt for lithium for EV, you might be buying from China ... if they let you.
Bottom line ... the environmental push for EV is complicit with human rights abuses in Africa, and in China. It also raises US economic and national security concerns with China controlling major African source of cobalt. Dilemma for left - environment vs human rights abuses; China control vs US national interest. Also China is committed to all EV - I believe by 2030 or 2035. (Sound familiar?) so will they fulfill their commitments first?
This is why I brought up the Democratic Republic of Congo
They produce 70% of worldwide cobalt
NBC. Nothing But Crap.
