Welcome to The Bicycle Thread. A monthly PING List for bicycle enthusiasts to share experiences, information and ideas.
Let me know if you want ON or OFF The Bicycle Thread Ping List.
Your ride is half done when you decide to turn around!
Keep pedaling on the Pinellas Trail!
Any Freepers risen the Katy trail thru Missouri? Thinking about doing it next spring. Any advice, equipment suggestions, experiences?
The train is the best way to get back to your car. Only four bike slots , so reserve early. Sedalia is the western limit for the train, however, the ride from Clinton to Sedalia is boring.
A detour to Columbia and or Jeff City is easy and can be fun.
Seventy miles a day is my fun threshold. I know folks who do more, but my experience is that after 70 miles on gravel I am ready to call it a day.
This illustrates why one of the cardinal rules of cycling (and particularly MTBing) is to always look where you're going instead of looking at what you're trying to avoid. Because the bike tends to go where you're looking.
There are still no road bikes available in medium sized frames. My wife told me I could buy a new bike last Christmas, but nothing was available. I went out again this past week, and there are still no road bikes available. One guy told me he only got three all year.
Tough business when you have such a limited supply source.
What kind of bike is suitable for the Katy? I’m currently riding a hybrid. Didn’t know how it would do on gravel. I hear the b&bs along the way are great
A hybrid will work fine. I have seen about everything. Road bikes, mountain bikes, etc.
I ride gatorskins. Avoid fragile road tires and you will be ok.
I got the wife this for Christmas.

You mean 24'' instead of larger?
I was taking frame size. I currently ride a 54.5cm frame, but since I am getting older and starting to shrink a little, I pretty much need to find something around 53-54cm.
Add a motor to the bicycle. It will become a easier ride.

That (21.6 inch) can translate into a 20" bike but there is more to it than that. Walmart has plenty of cheap ones, thank God.
I wondered. That’s not really the type of bike I’m looking for. I generally ride between 3,000-3,500 miles per year, so I really want something with a carbon fiber frame, but I am thinking about 105 components as opposed to ultegra.
