guess I’ll still have to do all my mom’s shopping for a while.
So much for the vaccine.
"Am I in the right place?"

We spend more money on public health than any nation in the world and per capita we have the worst results.
Mr. “I am science” has sure been a success story......
winter surge?
That's the plan.
(they bad guys' plan, so don't get smart)
Hello....
A few numbers of note. Globally, from day 1, 1.9% of cases have died. In the US, 1.6%. South Africa 3%. Russia 2.8%. Israel 0.6%.
There is an age skew of course. If you’re over 65 and you get infected, your odds of being dead in 2-3 weeks are much higher than 1.6%.
South Africa has one of the youngest populations on Earth. They are seeing quite the growth rate from Omicron, but there is no comfort to be found in talk of mild cases, because the samples are so young. The young aren’t dying at 3% in SA or 1.6% in the US, pre Omicron. But . . . they do hug their grandparents.
The whole reason for Omicron getting such focused attention early is the shape of the mutations made it very clear it could penetrate immunity, be it from vax or natural. So when the death rate elevates, we’re not going to hear much about “only the unvaccinated are dying”. That won’t be how it plays.
The “virus” still hasn’t been isolated. If the original hasn’t been isolated, then there’s no way to prove the existence of a “variant.”
The whole thing was made up.
Due to our health care and decadence, they are able to survive when in other places in the world such as India and Africa, they would be dead already. COVID-19 is culling the herd for us, we are fat and old in America.
Just a half minute of research would have shown you the US has far higher life expectancy than India or Africa. That comment was bizzare.
Ooops my misread. Apologies.
Given the recent revelations regarding adverse reactions and deaths due to the Pfizer covid vaccine, when do we start tracking vaccine related deaths with as much fervor as alleged covid deaths?
You are a gentleman and scholar.
Something’s not adding up there. SA has “one of the youngest populations on Earth”. But they have, so far, almost double our Covid CFR. Why would their young population drastically reduce fatalities from Omicron but not Delta or “original” (or early) Covid variants?
The only reason I can see is a poor health care system in which those vulnerable to fatal Covid illness almost all got exposed and died. So, there are essentially no vulnerable folks left, there, for Omicron to take out.
I don’t think that situation can be extended to the US too far, because we had lots of people mitigate, get vaccinated, etc.
As I’m over 65, the SA experience to date may have little predictive value for me, except that Omicron would be quite hard to avoid once it is rolling in my region.
You are correct. The US has 1.6% of its cases die, and South Africa has about 3%. How can that be if they are so young, you ask.
The short answer would be I don’t know. A longer answer might be 30% vax rate vs higher in the US, much higher elderly. Don’t know which vax. Maybe “I don’t get it, either” is the best answer.
