Another entrant is joining the battle for affiliates in Rush Limbaugh’s former 12-3pm eastern time slot.
580 WHP Harrisburg PA afternoon host and former Limbaugh fill-in Ken Matthews has partnered with Talk Media Network to launch a national show in the 12-3pm timeslot. Matthews pivoted to talk in 2009 as a fill-in at WKXW Trenton before joining WHP as afternoon host in 2013. He is best known for his 15 year run in mornings at CHR “B104” WAEB-FM Allentown PA from 1991-2006 and has also worked at stations in Portland ME, Cincinnati, and Charleston SC in his career
“There’s always room for Jell-O”.
I generally listen to Andrew Wilkow on Sirius/XM.
I like Rob Carson. Man he sure sounded rough the other day. He apparently had a minor stroke on the air due to a medicine interaction.
I’ve enjoyed Ken Matthews on WHP. I can sometimes get a signal near home in Harford County.
I love that the 12-3 slot is wide open. Several hundred stations should not have been given to Travis and Sexton. Nor to Bongino, who I also like.
The slot should be wide open for the deep bench of great talkers to duke it out and see who wins.
To be honest, none of these people are qualified. Most of them were govt spooks. Rush was a disc jockey and a true lover of radio. He knew what it took to do great radio, research. The vast majority of these hacks just read a blog, give lightweight Captain Obvious commentary and wedge into a commercial.Rush was the Sinatra of talk radio. Once in a lifetime.
Bongino is mediocre at best. I was actually surprised that he got Rush’s time slot.
He was the only one that I felt had the REAL PASSION for the job.
Plus, I liked Todd Herman’s high-tech background. He was very authoritative and credible in that arena.
He was always understated, but yes, very passionate.
Also agree with you. I never dis-liked Matthews. He just wasn't AS good.
I'm pretty close to being DONE with the Clay & Buck show. I can barely tell the differences between their voices. And, they clearly battle each other for what the TOPIC should be. That's annoying, but... I don't blame them. How could it NOT be so?
ONE VOICE, is better than two.
There is NO one voice, or two, or four that can replace RUSH. That's our reality now.
I've heard a lot of people say, "I never appreciated Rush until he was gone". Well, I was NOT one of those. I've been dreading not having Rush for at least 10 years. I was expecting it to come from his retirement, not his death. This way, is FAR harder. But I KNEW: He was irreplaceable. And, I appreciated the time we had together.
Bongino has great content, but his delivery is too fast, loud, and harsh, for me. I can’t listen to him for more than 10 minutes at a time.
“I can’t listen to him for more than 10 minutes at a time.”
Ditto. His intensity now wears thin. What he says makes sense, it is how he says it that is tiring to me. I can feel my BP going up when he gets on his soapbox.
Does XM Sirius have anything else besides Wilkow? I haven’t been a listener since i closed my account after I had another tedious squabble renewing at a reasonable price.
I rather like most of their line up. Alex Marlow from 6-10AM east coast has good guests while I'm driving, David Webb is always a good listen, and Mark Levin after Hannity(who I can take or leave).
And of course, when I'm tired of talk, there are plenty of good music channels.
