A student identified among the victims of Tuesday’s shooting at Oxford High School reportedly sacrificed his life during the incident, according to witnesses.
Student witnesses say that 16-year-old Tate Myre was shot while attempting to disarm the 15-year-old suspect, Ethan Crumbley, during the shooting, according to Newsweek. Myre later succumbed to his injuries.
A star running back for the Oxford Wildcats football team, Myre received praise from his team on Twitter, who said he was a “great young man.”
“Tate was on varsity since freshman year and was an honor student. Tate was a great young man with a bright future and beloved by all. You will be missed, Tate,” the team account said.

what a gut-wrenching tragedy. God be with his loved ones.
It takes good people to stop bad things.
‘what a gut-wrenching tragedy.’
indeed; people of this young man’s quality are far and few between...
The Left would call this “toxic masculinity.”
“Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.”
I live in Michigan and for 5 years in Lake Orion just 5 miles south of Oxford.
This made me tear up.
Maybe they should rename the school -
Tate Myre High School
Amen🙏
There is a petition going around to name the football field after him.
Guys like this are rare nowadays. God Bless Him.
That must happen.
I certainly hope they do name the school after him, and raise a statue to him as well. In this twisted society we’re all the poorer for his loss. Rest In Peace, son.
Tragic. He needs to be memorialized big time. Brave man.
When are our omniscient school officials going to pull real obviously mentally ill and violence oriented students out of school? Or have armed officers present? What about the murderers father? If teachers unions are so pro-student why aren’t they at the forefront of this issue?
Like a soldier jumping on a grenade, this young hero deserves a civilian equivalent to a Medal of Honor.
“Man hath no greater love than to lay down his life for another’’. What a courageous young man.
A hero.
