A letter from Catherine the Great supporting mass immunization against smallpox sold at auction Wednesday in London. In the letter, dated April 20, 1787, the Russian empress instructs a governor-general of what is now Ukraine to make immunizing the public a priority and says that “such inoculation should be common everywhere.”

Yikes!
Yes, that was part of how they ended up with a German dynasty. Most of Anne’s children died at childbirth, only one survived infancy, but he died around 12 years old.
I think I’ll stop complaining that I can’t always get fresh orange juice at the grocery store. :)
The letter was addressed to one Antonin Fraudski. She gave him 1 billion rubles, which he gave to China. He then tortured some beagles by throwing them in the Dnieper
Thanks nickcarraway. There was no such vaccine available in 1787, btw, the attempt was a crapshoot with not too good results. This article is just some stupid COVID stooge agitprop.
from the wikiwacky: [snip] In 1796, the British doctor Edward Jenner demonstrated that an infection with the relatively mild cowpox virus conferred immunity against the deadly smallpox virus. Cowpox served as a natural vaccine until the modern smallpox vaccine emerged in the 20th century. From 1958 to 1977, the World Health Organization conducted a global vaccination campaign that eradicated smallpox, making it the only human disease to be eradicated. Although routine smallpox vaccination is no longer performed on the general public, the vaccine is still being produced to guard against bioterrorism, biological warfare, and for monkeypox. [/snip]
Some might argue nt much has changed.
Smallpox shows up in New Kingdom pharaohs’ mummimes, and despite having no known non-human host, and having been eradicated, there have been a few smallpox cases over the past 40 years, making one wonder, where’s it coming from?
Yup.
I think they cut your arm and rubbed cow pox germs into the cut. Then you got cow pox which was not as bad as small pox but gave you immunity. Something like that.
Why all the Smallpox related articles/incidents recently?
🙄
Read on....yes.
It is amazing all that had to go right for us to gain our independence from England. Young people who want socialism are so brainwashed … and spoiled.
Also amazing that they had the fortitude to take such extreme, and very necessary, measures. A lot of soldiers and civilians must have died due to the variolations. Then they had to go to war.
Not to mention a lot of starving and freezing.
