It would only require one or two results this weekend – none of them farfetched – for Notre Dame to reach the College Football Playoff for the third time in four seasons, including each of the past two.
Maybe Georgia blows out Alabama. Maybe Baylor or Iowa beat Oklahoma State or Michigan. Maybe Cincinnati stumbles. That’s it. That’s all it would take.
If it happens, Notre Dame will compete once again in the playoff … only this time without its head coach.
It is the latest example of a sport gone mad – with money, with realignment, with championship aspirations, with deception and ego, and power plays and who knows what other good soap opera stuff. Whatever it is, know this: Brian Kelly is expected to leave Notre Dame after 12 seasons to take over a rebuilding project at LSU.

Orgeron is a little “rough around the edges”, and he and his wife recently divorced. Don’t know the story behind that, but who knows. Several years ago, Oregon was Ned temporary head coach at USC and won the last six games of the year, but was not offered the permanent job. He just doesn’t have the personality that big-time donors want as the face of a program.
Orgeron also had quite a few top players decide to not play in order to prep for the NFL.
Winning a national championship and beating Alabama doesn't even get you two years?
LSU shouldn't complain if Brian Kelly leaves for greener fields soon. He doesn't seem like that type, but they deserve it. (I'm not an Orgeron fan or anything, but this is too much)
Too bad that games isn’t at a neutral site.
I think maybe he just won the Highest Paid Coach Championship.
All the selection committee needs to consider re: ND is cincy beat them (and that was cincy’s best win.)
Funny how sports writers don’t get all fussy when athletes leave to go to another school.
Exactly! If Kelly thinks he can recruit with law enforcement still all eyes on the LSU boosters, he's nuts.
You'd almost be better off going to Florida and breaking all the rules for your first two years. But that's probably where Stoops will end up...
LOL! UConn has the distinction of being the first FBS school to cancel football due to COVID. Nothing like getting paid for a team that won't take the field...
Orgeron will get his money. Better to be fired early during the contract period than at the end. His forte is defense, so he’ll get a DC gig somewhere. Would be awesome if he was hired by Alabama as the defensive coordinator.
Culturally, I don’t see Brian Kelly fitting in with the LSU fans. Same for Steve Sarkisian at Texas.
Why would sports writers get all fussy when there is a change in coaches? It gives them a month of material to write about.
Pete Carrol is a good bet to get fired in Seattle, he’d be a prime candidate for ND.
I did not realize that Oklahoma State and Baylor play each other on Saturday, and that Baylor is ranked #9.
The fact that Cincinnati beat Notre Dame during the season may add or subtract some complications.
I was not singling out Field Hockey or its participants. Both my granddaughters played it in high school, and Gma and I went to all the games. My only point was/is, the big money generated by college football, provides the $$$ to fund all the lesser programs that are NOT self-sustaining financially.
Only after he loses to the Detroit Lions. 😉
