Armed suspects rob diners at Seasons 52 restaurant patio at South Coast Plaza
The Orange County Register (CA) ^ | November 23, 2021 | By NATHANIEL PERCY

Posted on 11/23/2021 3:00:49 PM PST by Oldeconomybuyer

Costa Mesa police are searching for robbers – at least one with a handgun – who ran onto the patio of the Seasons 52 restaurant at South Coast Plaza at dinnertime, ordered everyone to get down, and then stole a purse before fleeing Monday night.

Witnesses told police three to five people wearing masks and dressed in black clothes entered the patio and told everyone to get on the floor, Fyad said.

A couple of diners dove into a nearby rose bush. Others dropped to the ground and some had scrapes and bruises to show for it, a man later tweeted. The diner, who did not want to be named in a news story, said one victim lost a family heirloom.

The diner, who also did not want to be named, saying he fears for his safety, said he and three friends were enjoying dinner at the restaurant after playing in a charity golf tournament when one of the friends saw two people who looked suspicious.

They were wearing hooded sweatshirts and masks and entered the restaurant patio through a side gate. One of them had a handgun, he said, and he heard, “Get down.” As the suspects continued forward, he and a friend jumped over a wall and into a rose bush.

The person with the gun pointed it at another table, the diner said. He was not sure if the second suspect also had a gun.

“It was really quick, I would say three minutes and then we heard tires screeching (from the lower parking lot),” he said. “Luckily they didn’t fire the gun.”

The incident follows similar high-profile armed robberies in Beverly Hills and on Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles earlier this year, where suspects approached outdoor dining areas and robbed customers at gunpoint.

Not sure about the ones that live here. The Latino influence, for sure. Noticed that, about the time B-1 Bob Dornan got knocked of By Loretta “Sanchez” (Brixey). Back in the 90’s

Thanks.

What do you mean, “high end”? Is that like “upscale”?

Lemme tell you, I read stories like this and I find the woods around my house 70 miles from the Canadian border to be the highest of high ends.

"This is a high-end high-traffic shopping area."

Weren’t Californians instructed to just cooperate with their robbers?

Okay, but the crime and violence is spreading to their front door, in broad daylight no less.
California is going to burn before this is all over. The PTB aren’t going to change the direction the state is headed any time soon. Things WILL get much worse for the entire state.

I guess the chances of the punks running into Harry Callahan at a posh SoCal restaurant are pretty slim...

Still, I live for the day that Harry ventilates these punks on the spot.

The Beautiful People in Venice Beach aren’t very happy about thousands of bums living around their multi-million dollar condos near the beach. They are starting to squeal a bit.

Never sit with Your Back to the door or in front of a window. I prefer the back corners and if it’s a Booth I want the outside seat. Always have a round chambered if it’s a Semi-auto, a wheel gun fully loaded.

They’re emboldened because there is no rule of law and Newsom releases thousands of felons from prisons to resume doing what they do best. 👍

The victims at that restaurant should have all order a Rittenhouse, 4 shots and a chaser.

The homeless can be pushed from one place to another if the Venice Beach crowd squeals long and loud enough. Move the people, scrub, sanitize and things are back to Beautiful again. Until the homeless start drifting back in.

Crime however is a whole nother problem.
The shoplifting is already out of hand. Now the looters are organizing into gangs that clean out stores in minutes. And they’re hitting high end shops now plus hitting diners in broad daylight. The criminal element knows the score. They know California has gone soft on crime and they are taking advantage of the situation. Only drastic measures are going to solve any of the problems. I don’t think the California politicians have the spine to admit their policies are the problem and do a 180. I don’t think the California voters have the intelligence to realize that they people they keep voting for are the problem and adjust their voting habits.
As much as I hate to say it, California is lost for several generations at minimum. Maybe forever.

I read somewhere today that these are organized crime operations (maybe it’s in this article). The big crime bosses hire local kids to do the hits on the stores. They provide them with rental cars, crowbars, hammers, and whatever else is needed to do the robbery. The teens and early 20s are paid $500 to $1,000 to do the crime. They deliver the stolen goods to a drop-off point and the big bosses then get rid of the goods. My guess is that a lot of it probably goes immediately into containers for shipment out of the USA (pure guess on my part).

You need tough-on-crime DAs, Mayors, Sheriffs, Police Chiefs, State AG, Lt. Governor and Governor. You have to wonder when things will hit rock bottom enough where people will elect anti-crime politicians.
