Reporting from the belly of the beast – Northern Territory!
For anyone who has ever visited the NT you know that we are the most laid back people on the planet. She’ll be right mate, is not just a catch-phrase, but it is how we live. As Graham Hood (The Qantas pilot who has been featured in a lot of reporting – https://www.facebook.com/grahamhoodformerpilot/videos/1048155805968468/ is his latest) has said, Australians are laid back & don’t push back – until they do. We are now at that point.
In 2007, our local Crown Prosecutor (equivalent to your DA’s) went on the national broadcaster to highlight the crimes that were being committed in remote communities – particularly crimes against children. The federal government’s response was to send in the army to do health checks on community members – the outrage from the activist classes was to vilify anyone who supported the intervention. & yet today – there are crickets. Not a word not a whisper from our Land Councils who have the power to stop this.
Theory from my Aboriginal brother’s & sister’s in remote communities is that the aim is to force people out of their communities, that the vaccines are going to be used to ‘kill’ off the elders. Once that happens, the song lines, the stories and connection to ‘country’ will be lost & therefore Native Title, which protects sacred sites from mining and gives ownership of the land to the Aboriginal people will be extinquished.
It is interesting that the community of Robinson River is one of the places where people are being forced into the ‘Centre for National Resilience’ – that’s what they are calling the COVID camps here. (Also interesting to note a tender appeared on the NT Government website yesterday calling for the provision of facility management services for a period of 6 months – the price tag $80M – $100M)
Why is Robinson River notable? Big mine in the area – Lead, Zinc & Silver…The whole of the NT is a gigantic mineral deposit – with gold, uranium, rare earths, salt – the list goes on. Most areas can’t be ‘mined’ because of Native Title.
Gunner is a very desperate man, his rantings are getting more & more unhinged & it is obvious that he has missed his target. Officials keep saying that there is 80 – 90% vax rate in the NT – I’m calling BS on that.
Whilst our protests are tiny (in comparison), they continue weekly & new people attend every week. On a positive note, one of our Federal Senators (Sam McMahon) crossed the floor yesterday to vote against the mandates.
This cannot stand – I have a very bad feeling that something not good is going to happen – our Governments seem to have forgotten, that the Warlpiri people who inhabit some of the richest resourced land in the NT, historically were a war-like aggressive people & I’m here to report, that they still are.
The very fact that Gunner is of the party that has always said are the greatest supporters of Aboriginal people is opening a lot of eyes.
I’ve been able to avoid the vax to date, but it is getting to a crunch point – I think I have until the 7th of Feb 2022 to be fully vaccinated – the next 3 months, my husband & I are building our resources up – as a gun enthusiast (:)) he has started back at the range in earnest & for the first time in maybe 5 years, he is looking to fire up his bullet making machine to make lead projectiles.
Who knows what is coming down the pike at us – but rest assured, we will not go gentle (or silent) into that good night, we will rage against the dying of the light.
Pray for my countrymen, as I pray for yours…
