I guess they’ll be Mullen over who to hire next.
I hear John Gruden is available
Now if the Jags will just get rid of Urban maybe the state of Florida will get back to winning teams. One can dream.
After Gators fans continue to trash Urban Meyer, who got them two championships, I enjoy watching them in perpetual mediocrity since. Ungrateful fan base.
About time.
I’m an alumnus of UF and watch the team closely....you could see this crash and burn coming a mile away....
The #1 thing a college coach has to do is not what happens on Saturday, it’s what happens on the recruiting trail, which being at UF in a state with tremendous high school football you should be able to recruit great talent to UF....unfortunately Mullen never embraced recruiting like he should have.....especially since Miami and FSU have been really down..
Last night watching the game, the announcers made the statement that of the top 20 high school players last year in Florida, only 9 signed with schools in the State, so UF, Miami, and FSU combined only signed 9 and 11 top players went out of state....that is inconceivable to me...
UF alone should be able to get 10-12 of the top 20 players....
5 current teams have dominated college football the last few years, all five recruit like crazy and no other school has been able to crack into that top 5......until they do you will continue to see high profile jobs firing coaches....
Look at LSU, they won a national title in 2019 and fired their coach earlier this year....
When you pay 7-10 million per year to a head coach, it’s win or get fired....
Two 5-6 teams facing off next week with bowl implications … now if that ain’t a sign of the sorry state of college football, then I don’t know what is.
My ex was a “Bull Gator,” meaning a rich guy who gave the uni lots of money. He would have fired that jerk the minute he lost one single game.
I think the Missouri coach trolling him was the last straw.
This is partially a reaction of how they kept McElwain much too long once it was clear he wasn’t getting it done.
Florida, the University of Texas, Washington, USC, and some other schools used to be great jobs. They are now places where coaching careers go to die.
Dan's problem is his huge ego. He feels like he's the best best coach in the country, and won't take any criticism. Another is that he would go job-shopping every year after losing the Alabama game. This cost us several Egg Bowls, where Mullen would send the kids home Thanksgiving week while Ole Miss would practice.
Mississippi State tolerated this. A big-time power like Florida doesn't. Gator-fan demands recruiting 24/7, getting the top 10-12 players in the State every year, beating Georgia, and contending for National Championships.
Mullen would do well to go to a football program with a blue-collar ethic like TCU or Virginia Tech.
When Matt Corral rejected Mullen, that was the first Red Flag.
Of course the irony here is the NY Jets interviewed Mullen for their head coaching position because of his experience developing QB’s.
Wow Florida, Miami and Florida State are experiencing hard times. Not nearly as bad as Nebraska. You guys have me sympathies.
His lack of control of his players was on display with the shoe incident at LSU. This has been a long time coming.
It’s gonna be tough for Dan, but $6 mil up front and a $ mil a year for 6 years should buy a few drinks to drown his sorrows.
