All the Comforts of Home.

All the Comforts of Home.

Home should be all that is comforting; the place where you rest securely. The place where you are free to be yourself and free to do and eat what makes you feel happy. To have a comfortable warm place to put your feet up and to know that all is well.

As my husband's career in the army was approaching its end we were able to buy our farm and then we worked to make it our dream home. As winter approaches, we decided to put a wood burning stove in the new cabin room addition we added recently. I found a small nostalgic and graceful wood stove and we are completing the required tasks to put it into operation. Then, to put a damper on things, we had to cover up the beautifully stained white pine wood boards with fire proof material.

When we were at the hardware store the choices were limited due to inflation and my creative juices were not happy. I drove my scooter over to the Christmas display where they had an inflatable Santa but it was over inflated and Santa was blown away.

As I was pondering how we would be able to afford gifts this year, I was comforted reading in the psalms; “cast your burden upon the Lord who sustains you”. The word “sustain” means to nurture, to feed for strength, to keep you.

One adventure we have occurred when we were on the river in a canoe when one of our grand daughters caught a fish. When it got hauled in the boat my husband said it was an alligator gar! My grand daughters started to scream and the poor fish went from being in a nice green river to flopping around with no water to breathe in. “We have to let it go”. My husband told me to hold it while he got the hook out. That is not going to happen! Get the net and scoop it up! Our fishing trip became a fishing tale.

This year we want to put as much love and kindness into our family gatherings as possible. Our inheritance from the Lord is the love that warms our hearts; the comfort that Jesus, who came to bring peace on earth and good will to men, will never leave us or forsake us. The Lord told the disciples to comfort each other and to live each day rejoicing; not in fear. The best possible home, which is eternal life with Jesus, is on the horizon, but all of the comforts of our temporal homes are given as blessings to make us be full and satisfied in Providence, like after Thanksgiving dinner!
