We appear to be seeing somewhat similar numbers coming out of Vermont's eastern neighbor, New Hampshire, and in Maine, their neighbor to the north.

According to the CDC, 72% of that portion of New Hampshire's population age 12 and above have now been fully vaccinated, whereas 89.9% of the state's population age 65 and above have been fully vaccinated. In August, September, and October of 2020, of course, nobody in the state of New Hampshire had been vaccinated. And so what do we see?

In August 2020, New Hampshire incurred 14 deaths involving COVID. In August 2021, the state incurred 39 such deaths. In September 2020, there was at least one but fewer than 10 COVID deaths (i.e., for privacy reasons, the CDC does not provide specific numbers for a given time period when the death figures are between 1 and 9). In September 2021, there were 62 COVID deaths. In October 2020, New Hampshire incurred 42 COVID deaths. In October 2021, there were 106 such deaths.

While not as stark as the numbers for Vermont -- it's hard to get starker than going from "0" to several dozen -- the New Hampshire numbers appear to be following the same trend (i.e., post-vax 2021 figures are worse than pre-vax 2020 figures).

Now let's look at Maine. According to the CDC, 81% of the state's population age 12 and older has been fully vaccinated. For those age 65 and older, the figure is 95.9%.

In August 2020 (at which time no one had been vaccinated), Maine incurred 10 deaths involving COVID. In August 2021, the number of COVID deaths was 46. In September 2020, there were 13 deaths involving COVID. In September 2021, the number was 131. In October 2020, there were 10 deaths involving COVID in the state of Maine. In October 2021, there were 146 such deaths. With 146 deaths, October 2021 was the third highest monthly COVID death total in Maine since the pandemic began, behind only January 2021 (with 245 deaths) and December 2020 (with 204).

Meanwhile, the 124% of "expected deaths" (i.e., all cause mortality) in the month of October 2021 was the highest Maine has experienced since the pandemic began. The 121% "expected death" figure for the month of September 2021 is the second highest over the course of the pandemic in Maine.

Maine has problems.

Ping to DSHs informative, comparison stats breakdown, of Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine (2020 to 2021 comparisons).

Also...look at Austria, Belgium, Ireland, Netherlands and Greece....all with high “vax” rates, and, now with high china virus rates. :-(

Maine’s CDC claims that 70.5% of the state has been “vaccinated.”
