Crime-ravaged Seattle is now so dangerous it can no longer protect its own workers: Security guards are hired to walk county staffers to station or ferry

Seattle has become so dangerous that the city can no longer protect its own employees, with security guards now escorting them after they finish work.

King County's new 'walking bus' will debut on November 15, and see council workers based in Downtown Seattle and nearby Pioneer Square escorted to a nearby train station and ferry terminal each evening before being left to continue their commute home.

An announcement on King County's official website says: 'King County is launching a 'Walking Bus' pilot program where county employees can join their colleagues and a Facilities Management Division (FMD) Security Escort each evening walking to the King Street Station and the Coleman Dock from the downtown campus.'

No provision has been made for private sector workers also based in the same area.

The walking bus announcement also makes no mention of spiraling crime in the Pacific Northwest city, which has seen a recent 35 per cent spike in shootings this year compared to last, and a 76 per cent increase compared to 2019. So far in 2021, 73 people have been killed and another 283 have been injured by shootings in the city.

But the danger the city fears its workers are in is further underlined at the bottom of the announcement.

It states: 'The Walking Bus pilot program is in addition to security escorts offered by FMD Security Officers, who can escort you for several blocks from the building you work in, from downtown buildings to Goat Hill Garage or immediate vicinity bus stops.'

Rip Seattle, Who in their right mind would pay the median housing price of $785k to live there?

Tourism is dead, businesses pretty much gone; Pike Place Market kinda doing okay but the streets leading to it has nothing but boarded up business windows. Homeless camped along Alaska Way and the ferry terminals, eliminating their bodily fluids along the sidewalks. The city is pretty much dead thanks to the local politicians/city council/mayor/DA who have decriminalized just about everything.

I used to work on the waterfront there - was on the phone with an old co-worker the other night about the walks we used to take from there to (then) Safeco Field to watch the Mariners attempt to play baseball. He said he was back there last week and wouldn’t do that same walk in the daytime with an Uzi on his shoulder. The loonies don’t wait until nighttime anymore.

Mrs jimfree had a conference in Seattle 2 years ago. She described then her expectation that she would never return. Very sad.

Seems like defunding the police, creating sanctuary cities, and crime are exactly what the Libs were hoping for. Everything is working smoothly in Seattle, SF, Chicago, LA, and other stupid cities around the US.

The walk to King Street station from the federal building was always a little dicey with the homeless between me and my destination.

I wouldn’t make that walk now.

I can’t believe my brother is still there. His car has been broken into 5 times last I heard. He just leaves it unlocked now so they won’t break the windows.

WOW - we had a beautiful condo in Pioneer Square that we sold about 5 years ago or so. Thank God! I never felt safe outside at night and I have a dog who has to be walked.

Strangely - a woman bought the place.

Baghdad is probably safer than Seattle or Portland these days.

Gone are the days when as a teen ever I would hop the Bremerton / Seattle ferry to spend the day at the science Center then hit the pawn shop as looking at guitars.

( got a 68 4001 rickenbacker bass at one for $375)

So, you get an escort to a ferry that may be canceled because of all the fired workers from Inslee's vax mandate.

WSF Alternate and Regular Schedule Update Thursday, November 11 - Reminder Washington State Ferries is operating on alternate schedules on most routes until further notice. These changes will help offer more predictable and reliable service systemwide in the face of crewing shortages due to a global shortage of mariners that has been worsened by the pandemic. WSF will attempt to add service when possible, and will provide notifications when full service can temporarily be restored to a route.

Sad - I’ve stayed in both Seattle & San Francisco just a few years ago. Really enjoyed both cities. It’s amazing that people are willing to throw that all away...my list of getaway places keeps shrinking.

Hubby and I moved to the Seattle area in 1980. We would go to the movies or just walk around and we never felt anything but safe. I wouldn't go walking around Seattle in the daytime anymore. Hubby is still working and has to walk a few blocks from his bus stop. He is always stepping over the unconscious bodies of the druggies and drunks laying on the sidewalk. Also, trying to avoid the human waste also on the sidewalk.

They just elected a new mayor; perhaps he will try to do something to bring Seattle back to a more livable city.

I used to love to visit SFO and lived in a suburb of Seattle for 40 years. You would have to pay me to live in SFO, and I'm not sure I would do it even if paid. What perpetual Democrat governance has done to both these cities is a real crime.

San Francisco was one of my very favorite. We had a couple of glorious visits decades ago. There shall be no more but the memories remain sweet.
