WASHINGTON, Saturday, Nov. 9.

It will be gratifying to the country to know that at the present time over 450,000 troops have been mustered in the service of the Government, and by the meeting of Congress, three weeks hence, the half million authorized to be raised by act of July will have been made up. Those wishing to volunteer must decide quickly, or the only chance left them to fight will be in the regular service, which will then, no doubt, experience no difficulty in getting recruits.

In respect to the blockade, all the advices received at the State Department express the conviction on the part of foreign Governments that it is effective, and there is, consequently, no disposition to attempt to raise it. Public sentiment in favor of the Government is even stronger abroad than it is here -- foreign nations being fully convinced that soon the rebellion must be crushed out.

A rumor is in circulation that the rebels have advanced their pickets all along our lines. Many military men believe this is a feint to cover the withdrawal of troops to the Atlantic coast.

From the Upper Potomac, I learn that the rebels have established a new camp a short distance above Edwards' Ferry. The opposing pickets are daily talking across the river to one another. Among other things, the rebels jocosely invited our men to cross the river to get their lost overcoats, and to bring some whisky in exchange.

The tug Pusey, arrived from the flotilla to-day reports nothing of interest.

Yesterday, Gen. WADSWORTH, accompanied by two privates of the New-York Twenty-third Regiment, went to BRUSH's house, three miles from Falls Church, on the road leading to Fairfax Court-House, for the purpose of finding forage.

Really enjoyed reading the Thanksgiving Proclamations - how far we’ve come since then. Or should I say gone?

I see your posts here all of the time. Obviously it’s a labor of love for you. Well done, by the way. I don’t comment but I do appreciate them. A bit of a secret admirer.

Thank you.

Its interesting that the date was honoring the signing of the Mayflower Compact. It had nothing to do with the harvest, rough times, or Indians playing nice.

If we have simply stuck with the original intent...
