“Why You Should Assume Everyone Is Stupid, Lazy, and Possibly Insane (Including You)”

Fine, I can assume it, but if it’s true, then I’m not smart, motivated or sane enough ever to be sure of it. That’s frustrating.

I’ll remember that when I’m on the flight deck at 35,000 feet with 180 or so passengers; pass the booze, I’m feeling frisky.

Very few of the decisions we make are based on logic, reason or good thinking.

Love the bunny.

What he’s doing is just obfuscating on behalf of the cabal who actually ARE secretly plotting world domination - and I’m going to the great effort of thinking with the “hard work” part of my mind when I say that.

There’s a whole bunch of these people in Glasgow right now. And they are deciding your future.

we have two modes of processing information to make decisions. The first is automatic. It’s our first reaction, our mind’s formation of instant associations with no effort. It’s intuitive and impressionistic, the result of connections we’ve built though countless past experiences.

The second is slower thought—the part of our brain we use when we do an Algebra problem, where we go through careful, logical steps to arrive at a conclusion. This kind of thinking is a lot of work.

I've found that for me, the first method usually brings about the right decision. Unfortunately, I rarely go with that one and instead, overthink until I get to the wrong decision.

There are two categories of people living on this planet — snake oil salesmen and snake oil buyers.

I think those two methods are why we cannot reason someone out of a position they didn’t reason themselves into.

No matter how smart you are, you will do stupid stuff.

“Sanity” is a spectrum. I know many well behaved, rational folks who believe in crazy things.

“Lazy” sometimes is “How can I do this the most efficient way?” A great engineer is lazy if he makes a complicated part simple. But it is also a trap. When conservatives ask “Why don’t you save for the future?” we fail to realize most people are incapable (yes, incapable) of doing that. I have noticed many who will saying that saving and self denial are a form of stealing. “I want that new car, but can’t afford it now. If I save, I will be able to but that means I will not have it NOW!”

You can learn from everyone. Dad taught me that. For instance, if I ask the garbage man about what he is picking up from peoples houses, he will have a better idea than an economist who never ventures outside.

That’s because common sense is so rare these days. It’s just too hard to think ahead and come to logical Conclusions. That takes time, concentration and commitment. It’s just easier to live for today only and repeat the mantra “tomorrow never comes”. That’s how generation after generation can sit on their front porch or live in their parent’s basement waiting, waiting for change that is never going to come.

What I have seen is there are people more Intune with doing type 2 work.

People that are not that way, which is the majority, will scream that “YOU HATE ME!” if you deny what their fast brain wants.

I have seen multi million dollar projects fail for such tantrums.

I had a supervisor once who said tha if you have a new task, have the laziest person in the office develope the procedure to do it. That way you will get the most efficient method.

Oddly, I usually got to develope new procedures.
