A 29-year-old Catskill man is in a Syracuse burn unit after he burst into flames when Catskill police officers used a Taser to subdue him after he had doused himself with hand sanitizer, police confirmed on Friday.
Jason Jones, a celebrated athlete at Catskill High School more than a decade ago, is in an intensive care unit at Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse. His condition is grave, according to people briefed on the matter.
The incident unfolded last weekend when Jones, who appeared intoxicated, walked into the village police department and got into a confrontation with officers. Chief Dave Darling, a former State Police senior investigator, confirmed that officers deployed a Taser to subdue Jones, who was familiar to them from past encounters.
"I think they were afraid he was going to hurt himself, and that’s what started it," Darling said. "There are still details that we’re trying to develop."

Lesser states are jealous of Florida and our warm weather, beaches, tourist attractions, and a wealth of human interest stories. A tasered man catching fire is barely a mention compared to Florida’s wealth of odd stories.

I tend to agree with you...several elements of this story don’t fit well. This might be a case where the guy bursts into flames and the policeman is standing there mostly shocked or dazed (he hadn’t seen that before). Guy’s family will take this to court....maybe something more comes out of this episode.

Hand sanitizer is damn near Everclear level concentration of ethanol. One match and proof! The cops should know this.
Hand sanitizer can catch on fire in your vehicle. Not a place to keep it.

Hand sanitizer has a high alcohol content. It also makes a great fire starter. You can verify this by putting a small drop on a plate a putting a flame to it. I Highly recommend a small bottle be added to your gear or bug out bag.

Such a mixture rubbed on the skin will penetrate the skin and drive whatever chemical is mixed with it.
I knew a guy who had bad arthritis, he used DMSO around his joints. It relieved the pain, but had a bad lingering unmistakable odor. Not sure if it was flamable, but at the time there were cautions about using it (was made for animals) and being around insecticides etc. It would push those chemical in the skin.
I’m sure the druggies have figured that one out.
What the Biden Regime needs to do is propose commonsense hand sanitizer regulations.
