A public university in New York is sponsoring an event ahead of Thanksgiving that wishes to “erase” the beloved holiday and replace it, according to a tip received through Young America’s Foundation’s Campus Bias Tipline.
On November 8, the University at Buffalo Intercultural and Diversity Center (IDC) is sponsoring an event titled “The Real History of Thanksgiving” as a part of their “Tough Topics” discussion series.
“Why is Thanksgiving still celebrated in America when the truth behind the holiday is the massacre of Indigenous communities? How can we erase this whitewashed history for good? Come out to the IDC to discuss the real history of Thanksgiving and what America should do in place of this celebration,” the description reads.
Directly after this event, the IDC is sponsoring another event, titled “Native American Gender Identities.” According to the university’s website, the event will analyze “Two-Spirit,” discussing if “non-native Americans” can “identify with this term,” and define the “western understanding.”
In a statement to YAF, Vice President for University Communications John Della Contrada said the event “…provides a forum for examining the historical context of Thanksgiving,” and “It is inaccurate to characterize this event as ‘an attempt to cancel Thanksgiving,'” despite evidence to the contrary.

Yes, agreed.
I think that it was made a national holiday by Abraham Lincoln when the Union won the civil war.
Was is the Christian influence that ended The Iroquois nations cannibalism??
Wonder what the U of B wokesters think?
I think you are probably thinking of Sir Walter Raleigh's colony at Roanoke. The ship returned to England after delivering the colonists. After delays, they returned to find the settlement deserted and this carved into a tree: "CROATOAN"
No one is sure what that is supposed to mean and subsequent searches never turned up another colony. Archeologists to this day haven't solved the mystery.
Oh, that'll go over big on the rez. They don't have enough trouble without over-earnest sociology majors "re-imagining" them?

I can't think of a more perfect example of cultural appropriation, or misappropriation more accurately. Here's a radical suggestion: how about we let the tribes tell us about their culture instead of us telling them?
Look out, Jesus! They coming for you next!!
That should be entertaining.
Been to Jamestown about a dozen time.
IIRC it was the water supply that nearly did them in.
I have known for a long time that they wanted to eliminate Thanksgiving.
It was both. There was a very bad winter, but also the pilgrims initially were more collectivist. Everybody had to help build all the homes, do the planting and all the other work that had to be done to build the village. As expected, some did not work as hard as others and so it was eventually changed.
The “Pilgrims” were comprised of 2 separate groups. There were those who left for religious freedom and the other group were considered the “strangers” who were there to maybe become wealthy.
You nailed it, Dave.
That’s why they tear down statues, destroy holidays, and rewrite textbooks among other things.
The cultural revolution in China was absolutely horrific.
You get it.

These people eat, sleep, live, breath nothing but hate. Hate is their reason for living and the misery they spread is their manna. They take pleasure in making as many people as possible, miserable and most of all, they hate it when you smile or take joy in simple pleasures.
I’m convinced that if we were to split into two countries, they would self immolate within ten years.
I graduated from that university and it was drifting that way in the 80’s with “recommended” then mandatory multi-culti studies. They became mandatory because nobody signed up except athletes. It was when I attended my first session of the Limbaugh Institute of Advanced Conservative Studies while driving home from a part time job.
At least Omuslim just tried to turn every holiday into a day of service. 😆
