The price of pizza is soaring in the Big Apple thanks to a dyspeptic recipe of inflationary food costs, a global supply-chain crisis and national labor shortage.
The sticker shock is hitting pizza-passionate Gothamites right in the gut.
“It’s a little bit scary at times,” said Slone Elias, a customer at 2 Bros. Pizza on Eighth Avenue in Chelsea. “Eventually it’s going to reflect in rising food prices at every restaurant.”

To maintain $1 slice pricing, each customer will be given a complimentary magnifying glass with each order.
“This is said with my 7 years living in the city and then coming back west. It’s the sauce and the gluten development in the crust”
I have heard on multiple occasions that many think that New York City Pizza is the best in the world due to the tap water used in the dough 🤔
The slices are quite large but it's mostly bread. Late at night, it's the place to go if you overindulged at the local bars. A couple of those slices will soak up what's in your stomach and help you avoid a hangover.
I would still put the overall quality of that pizza above what you get at Dominos, Papa John's and Little Caesars, etc.
On the other side of the spectrum, I would go up to Connecticut and get Pepe's Pizza. That is the best pizza I have ever had and I've had a lot of pizza. Try the white clam and garlic. It sounds like it wouldn't taste good but it's the best.
IMHO, it's surprisingly decent pizza. I used to go to the one on 9th Ave across from the bus terminal (when I used to take buses).

So fuel costs doubling, fertilizer cost tripling and a labor shortage doesn’t affect the cost of “flour, sauce and cheese?”
Quit being low-info.
NYC pizza sucks - soggy and tastes like it was made with water from the toilet. I wouldn’t eat it if it was free.
I was gonna say, you mean you can still get a slice for a buck the same as forty years ago? Spent a year in the big apple in the eighties and a slice on the run is about the only happy memory I have of the place.
I lived on St Mark’s Pl bet. 2nd and 3rd in the mid eighties. The was a place called Video Pop on the corner at 3rd that had great dollar slices. A huge part of how I afforded food! Lol. All Ray’s locations too.
Went back to work briefly in the oughts and slices were 3-4dollars. There may be one off specials somewhere I guess.
Ranch?
My god, next thing you know they’ll be putting pineapple
on them!
They put ranch dressing on everything, even pizza.
Restaurants buy flour, cheese and sauce wholesale. I'll bet a $20.00 ex-large pizza doesn't have $2.00 worth of flour, cheese and sauce.
