The landlords who rent retail space at a high-end shopping center in Malibu, California have decided enough is enough with Jerry Seinfeld, Jay Leno, and other Porsche enthusiasts meeting up in their parking lot. Reportedly, a friend of the famous comedians, who are both huge gearheads, say they’re being treated like the “MS-13 of Malibu” as the landlords have called in the police to clear the car enthusiasts.
Even if you try to be respectful when meeting with other friends who have cool cars, some people view you as outlaws wanting to burn down the entire town.
Seinfeld, Leno, and their Porsche-loving friends have been meeting up the Malibu Kitchen regularly for breakfast on Sundays for 20 years without any trouble. What changed was all the government-imposed lockdown measures in California. With people bored out of their ever-living minds, word spread of the low-key gathering and the crowd ballooned to the point the landlords decided it was a nuisance.
You really can’t blame all these car enthusiasts who were sick of everything being closed for flocking to some of the only fun to be had in California. After all, the beaches were shut down and all sorts of other ridiculous measures. But what was an intimate gathering of Porsche enthusiasts in the area exploded into a circus of just about every type of gearhead, including the most annoying out there.
As the crowd grew, landlords hired private security to try keeping parking spots available for paying customers. That’s understandable, but the situation apparently was so bad the landlords felt compelled to next call the police. One has to wonder if some more innovative measures could have alleviated the problems, but without all the details of the situation that’s an impossible question to answer thoroughly.

Some years back, Jerry Seinfeld bought a five-story building in Midtown Manhattan and converted it into a five-story garage for his car collection.
It may already have been a garage, can't remember.
And your point being is... California is very red outside of SD,SF, and LA
We had car meets for years. For the longest time, it was between 30 - 50 cars, Saturday mornings, true classics and true sports cars.
A few years ago, it started to grow. All of a sudden there were young guys showing up with Nissans, Hondas, etc with tricked out body work and exhaust packages. A different crowd began to show up too. Then the MOPAR people arrived. We went from 40 cars to 100 in a year. What was something that was cool to see had turned into a platform to show off when leaving. Guys would spin out, pause and drag race when leaving, it was a true circus.
Despite warnings, the behavior didn’t stop and complaints rolled in. Some took issue with being called out and that got ugly. The organizers, who were really nice guys, were beside themselves. We went through four locations, ejected from each after just a few meets, all because some punk kids or adolescent adult had to show off. No Loitering signs have gone up at one location. We couldn’t even “sneak back” under the radar.
The group is basically homeless now.
Something like this was everyone’s worry....
Seems to me the restaurant messed up totally. Put up gates and charge a lot for parking, except for the original enthusiasts. Require online registration. Send wait staff into the crowd to take pre-paid orders with square. All kinds of opportunity!
Catering Services could use the work.
It does not matter to me one way or another.
Just because I like Jay Leno (he’s a fun guy), doesn’t necessarily mean he’s always in the right.
I have heard a lot about Seinfeld, but never did watch the show.
My point is simple, Leno voted for this, as I stated in my first comment.
“you do get very strange looks too”
Its mostly ignorance. What they might not realize is many bikes (like I ride) cost as much or more than a midsized car. IOW they ain’t cheap and ya gotta be able to afford it somehow.
$30k is average for a touring Harley nowadays.
“What happened in that incident?”
I cannot remember the exact details but a very rich man owned the Duesenberg and it was stored for 60+ years. He had dementia and the rent was not paid for some years.
The car was put up on a “secret public auction” that only Leno and the guy who was the “buyer” for Leno were made aware of.
The family did pay the back storage fees before the auction but the auction was still held
Leno got the car for $180k which was a miniscule amount of what it was really worth.
Leno settled out of court and paid the family an undisclosed amount.
I cannot remember the exact details of what happened but it was considered a shady transaction.
Sorta like if your brother was a sherriff in charge of foresclusures and he told you and you only about a up coming foreclosure of a home and you were the only bidder that showed up.
I heard about that. That’s a lot of high dollar car in one place. He probably had all manner of security cameras and devices switched on.
Can’t they carpool? ;-)
The elderly owner was a descendent of Isidore & Isa Straus (Isidore a cofounder of Macys & he wife Ida died on the Titanic).

“you wear riding gear and motorcycle boots and some people automatically think your a hells angel.”
My sister and brother in law are riders. They had been to Key West for a meet and coming back up stopped at a bar somewhere in Florida. My sister said the waitress went nuts the minute they walked in yelling at them to “get f*** out” over and over. My sister’s a nurse and her husband is a designer. Go figure.
Why dont they buy their own restaurant? Problem solved.
This is the right answer.
You need to include RINOs in that statement.
My Republican Governor DeWine is only marginally better.
DeWine is a jackass.
Thanks. I Wish he had more integrity than that. He should negotiated with the family for the car, and walked away if they said no.
I knew he is liberal, I suppose it shouldn’t surprise me that he did something like that. Just hate to see them do crap like that to others.
I liked watching his show “Leno’s garage” for the cool cars he has, but now that will be all I thjnk about if I see it agai.n.
Oh yeah sounds familiar.
tatoos and bikes can sometimes freak people out but Mrs vtwin And I are ink free...and I’m only 5’6”. LOL
