The attorney representing the armorer at the center of the rust movie shooting investigation is claiming his client tried to get actor Alec Baldwin more training on gun safety but was denied.
This comes after reports that Hanna Gutierrez Reed had been on a podcast talking about how nervous she was when she was recently hired as the armorer on another movie.
"I was really nervous about it at first,” she said in a September interview on the podcast Voices of the West. “And I almost didn't take the job because I wasn't sure if I was ready. But doing it like it went really smoothly.”
Her attorney, Jason Bowles said his client was very experienced and knew exactly what she was doing.
"She was just expressing like any young person going into the industry getting in that she's got some nerves,” Bowles said. “But, that doesn't mean she's not capable of doing the job in a big way."
Bowles said his client was concerned about safety on the set prior to actor and producer Alec Baldwin firing a shot from a gun. The shooting killed cinemaphotographer Halyna Hutchins and injured director Joel Souza.
"She was very safety conscious,” Bowles said. “She really stressed safety to everybody on that set."
So much so Bowles said his client was sounding the alarm.
"She repeatedly asked for more training days to train the actors in the use of firearms, firearms safety,” Bowles said. “She had one training day with eight or nine people at once, and that's not ideal to train eight or nine people at the same time. She did have one session with Alec Baldwin for approximately 30 minutes. She had asked for another session with him. But the way these things work, they just didn't give it to her."

She didn’t think he was properly trained so she handed him a loaded gun?
Thats your defense?
And she’s suppose to do what?? Fire him? I don’t think that’s how it works.
They really want to nail her. Her dad was a well known armorer. I doubt that she did even one little thing wrong.
Scapegoat. She takes the hit publicly, Baldwin money is passed privately, is my bet.
After he said, you want to give me more training? Training is for losers. The producers don’t give a #### about you. I’m your boss and I’ll fire your sorry ass without pay. Oh? Have I got your attention now? Good. Because I’ve been acting with guns for over 40 years and I know what I’m doing. I’m just going to pull it out and go like this - Bang.
She did dozens of things wrong. Flagrantly wrong. The death of a crew member was the result.
She belongs in prison, right along side of Alec Baldwin.
But of course she has no real money and cannot match the legal team and media team that Baldwin can bring to his defense. She is toast. Baldwin will skate.
She does make a convenient scapegoat. And somebody has to be punished. She will certainly be the main attraction in the rest of the show. Too bad the punishments will likely stop there.
The above link is her dad. Interesting.
One point I’ve been making is that plenty of actors have had to learn all sorts of stuff to be able to portrait a character. Riding a horse comes to mind.
One Day.
That’s all it would take for general gun safety and then maybe 30-60 minutes on a particular weapon with reminders of the basics.
But when you’re special and lazy and obnoxious, none of that applies. The world should cater to your needs and failings.
It still drives me nuts that RUST is about an accidental killing...yes...with a gun.
I’m gonna go out on a limb....and bet that Baldwin took a Gun Safety course when he was young.
Everyone is pointing fingers now.
You would think so considering his father’s occupation.
They are all pointing fingers publicly.
None of them know who will be charged with what.
The battle of attorneys. They will say anything for their client.
I know I got a little card from the program. I wonder if there's a record someplace. Hmmmm
He said he was super close to his father.
My point was that the lawyer’s plans for her defense was weak as H3ll.
She is “Guilty” of handing a loaded gun to Baldwin. The excues that HE didn’t have enough training does nothing to change the fact that she is the one who provided a loaded gun to this “poorly trained” actor.
It would be a better defense if her lawyer tried to provide “reasonable doubt” by suggesting Baldwin or someone else loaded a live round AFTER she gave him the gun.
She didn’t even give it to him. Halls did. You can read his statement in the warrant.
